Heat Index Expected to Break 100; Places to Stay Cool

Temperatures will be in the mid-90s with high dew points, creating even more uncomfortable conditions. Beaches and pools are open longer and Patch has a guide with places to go to stay cool and be safe.

Heat indices are expected to push 100 degrees Wednesday and top that mark on Thursday on the two hottest days of 2012.

Patch’s media partners at FOX6 predict temperature highs of 94 and then 96, with dew points on Thursday pushing the heat index — the true indication of how it feels outside — as high as 105.

If you are truly fascinated by the climbing temperatures, the National Weather Services updates current conditions hourly, with the “remarks” section noting heat index numbers when they exceed 90.

Staying cool

Milwaukee County Parks are extending public pool hours both days, and Waukesha County beaches will do the same. Patch has prepared a guide to pools and other watery fun throughout suburban Milwaukee, while Brookfield Patch featured a more comprehensive list of ways to stay cool. Blogger Lori Mendelsohn Thomas reinforced the message about keeping pets out of parked cars during extreme heat.
