A young Wauwatosa woman grew more and more afraid as, first, someone repeatedly rang her doorbell while she was home alone, then went to her kitchen window and began to cut open her screen.
But in the end, it was she who frightened them off, probably just by making a movement near another window and letting them know there was someone home.
According to police reports:
At 5:51 p.m. last Friday, a woman in her mid-20s who recently moved into a home in the 6400 block of West Wright Street with her boyfriend reported that two young men had just tried to break in.
She told police that her doorbell had rung several times, but being home alone and it being dark, she didn’t answer.
Shortly after, she said, she heard two male voices outside her kitchen window, and then what she thought sounded like her window screen being cut.
She went into the next room, peered out a window, and saw two subjects dressed in all black clothing. They apparently saw her, too, she said, because they suddenly ran off.
Wauwatosa police found two holes cut in the kitchen window screen. Officers searched the area but found no sign of the burglars.
The woman said that the only description she could give was that both subjects appeared to be in their late teens or early 20s and were both about 5-feet 5-inches tall.
