Jen Sebena's Mom Gives Tosa Police a Memory

"Jenny Bears" will be a reminder of the warmth and spirit of a beloved colleague.

It isn't as though anyone at the Wauwatosa Police Department could forget Jennifer Sebena.

Known for her bubbling spirit and hearty sense of humor, she was a young woman made to stick in anyone's memory.

But now each member of the department has a little something more, a tangible reminder of their sister in blue.

Jen's mother, Violet Gerhat, brought in lunch for the whole department on Monday, complete with luscious-looking brownies for dessert, and made sure that everyone, from the most grizzled veteran patrol officer to the clerks, left with a teddy bear.

"Jen really loved teddy bears," said Officer Don Semega. "So her mother thought it would be nice if we each had one to remember her by."

Some "Jenny Bears" may go home with their new owners, some may perch above the desks of ranking officers, some may peek out of duty lockers.

But don't be too surprised if you should happen to notice a few squad cars carrying a tiny, fuzzy passenger. Now, no officer needs to patrol alone. They each have a partner.
