"Last Chance" is Patch's reminder that deadlines and fleeting opportunities arise every week, and Wauwatosa residents have but days to plan and execute.
Some deadlines this week:
Absentee voting for May 8 recall primary
Absentee voting in person at City Hall ends at 5 p.m. Friday.
The Wauwatosa City Clerk's office will mail out ballots through 4:30 p.m. Thursday upon receiving a written request; and your ballot must be filed back with that office by 5 p.m. Friday.
Your request must include your address and signature. More than one eligible voter living at the same address may file a joint request, as long as the letter is signed by all requesting ballots.
If you want a ballot mailed out Thursday but can't get to City Hall during business hours, you may drop off a request in the night deposit box Wednesday night or before 8 a.m. Thursday.
Residents should not to use the night depository during the day, because it is emptied once in the morning but only irregularly during business hours.
For practical purposes, those requesting ballots in person should try to do so before 4:30 p.m. Thursday, because that's when the desk closes and some time is needed for processing the application and getting a ballot in the mail.
By state law, the clerk's office must stay open until 5 p.m. Friday to accept absentee ballots.
'Peter Pan' finishes run at West this weekend
The West High Trojan Players' production of 'Peter Pan' will close after two final performances at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
So it's your last chance to see Tosa high school students in flight above the stage in this classic stage musical.
Director Tim Catlett was able to contract with a professional stage effects company to design and rig the flying gear, and students, especially West senior Valerie Vogel as Peter, spend a lot of time in the air.
Tickets are $15 for adults; $12.50 for seniors; $10 for students and $5 for children 5 years and younger.
Tickets can be purchased online up through the night before each performance at seatyourself.biz/trojanplayers.
For more information, visit the Trojan Players Facebook event page here or call the info hotline at 414-773-3219.
'Music Man' for three shows only at Longfellow
Longfellow's production of "Music Man, Jr." runs this week only, so it's your first, last and only chance to see Tosa middle schoolers take on the challenge of song, dance and acting in this slightly scaled back version of a Broadway show.
Enjoy the story of flim-flam artist Harold Hill as he tries to put one over on the stiff-necked citizens of River City, Iowa, but ends up mending his ways and losing his heart to Marian "The Librarian" Paroo.
"Professor" Hill's scam is to sell instruments and music lessons for a community boy's band. The ensuing shenanigans offer up timeless tunes including "Ya Got Trouble" and "76 Trombones," and the wistfully romantic "Till There Was You."
Showtimes are at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 4 p.m. Saturday in the Longfellow auditorium.
Advance tickets for reserved seating are available at the school: Adults, $5; students (grades 6-12), $4; and children (grades 5 and under), $3.
Tickets also can be purchased at the box office, which will open 30 minutes prior to each performance. For more information, call 414-773-2445.
