Nikki Haley Joins Walker at Quad, says to “Reward His Courage”

The South Carolina governor hit the campaign trail with Gov. Scott Walker, landing on the factory floor at Quad/Graphics to implore workers to go out and vote.

Hundreds of Quad/Graphics Inc. workers flooded the factory floor Friday afternoon as Gov. Scott Walker and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley addressed employees, asking for their votes on Tuesday.

Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch kicked-off the “grassroots rally” at the factory, introducing Gov. Walker to an enormous round of applause. Just before taking the stage, the governor was handed a traditional dark blue Quad shirt that almost every employee at the factory wears.

“I’m here to ask for your vote on Tuesday,” Gov. Walker said. “This shirt – I’ll be proud to wear it on Wednesday morning after the election and still be Governor Scott Walker… Quad is helping Wisconsin move forward.”

Gov. Walker outlined his string of successful reforms in Wisconsin while summarizing Milwaukee’s latest figures on jobs and taxes, digging into opposing candidate Tom Barrett.

“What we’re seeing today is people really want to see courage, and Scott Walker shows courage..."

And the frenzy continued as the Wis. governor introduced Gov. Nikki Haley, considered by some as the next GOP political powerhouse. She applauded Scott Walker, saying the reason why she came to support him was because he displays courage for all governors.

“I know that the passion, the interest that the people of Wisconsin have is enough for them to get out and vote,” Gov. Haley said. “What we’re seeing today is people really want to see to see courage, and Scott Walker shows courage. But not only does he show courage, but he shows results.

"We’re not looking at deficits; we’re looking at surpluses. We’re not looking at high unemployment; we’re seeing the lowest unemployment rate since 2008. We’re looking at jobs. That’s something people are amazed by, and what we’ll see on Tuesday is people are going to reward courage and vote to keep Scott Walker in office.”

Gov. Haley asked Quad/Graphics works to head to the polls on Tuesday to “reward Scott Walker for the courage he’s shown.”

Numbers from the most recent poll out of Marquette University Law School put Tom Barrett seven points behind Gov. Scott Walker, 45 to 52 percent.

Or why don't you move to California, Jeff? High and progressive taxes, out-of-control state debt, anti-business climate and ridiculous regulations, a strong union domination with political influence, plus a great climate! Just like Wisconsin was under the Doyle reign, except without the great climate. Bye, bye, Jeffery.

By all means Jeff, take the no-nothing advice of Annie. Annie apparently doesn't understand that CA is the home to a mere 55 Fortune 500 companies. Annie likely prefers one of the worker's paradise states like Mississippi which has no Fortune 500s. It's a Right to Low Pay State which Walker and his Billionaire "Groupie" Diane Hendricks want for WI.

Yes CA has problems and it also has the intellectual and business horsepower to pull itself out of the TEAPublican caused Recession.

To MrsPeel - Have you ever actually talked with small-to-medium business owners in California? Do you have any idea of the onerous regulations that business owners must endure on a daily basis in California? Are you aware of the wide variety of government inspectors who badger the owners about nonsense rules and regulations with hefty fines involved? When it is close-to-impossible to make a profit in CA, then the businesses either close or leave the state, and the people they hired are left without jobs. Simple economics, MrsPeel.

It was not mandatory to attend the event, there were people who didn't.....the only ones that typically need to pay their activists to show up are the liberals. There are plenty of educated, hardworking people at Quad who know a good thing when they see it.....that's why there were so many people at his speech.

To James, who wrote, "Further proof that Barrett and the Dems are targeting the low information, non-thinking voter!" Sad to say, some of those "voters" you describe are teachers. Throughout this recall ordeal, I have met some union teachers who are brainwashed, angry, bitter, and are ignorant of the actual facts...one teacher even told me that "Gov. Walker forced her to retire!" And these are college-educated people who are in charge of our kids for 5 days a week. I feel bad for all of the good, honest, sincere teachers (union and non-union) who have these vocal ingrates within their profession.

It was absolutely NOT mandatory that we attend, it was allowed if we desired. Apparently many desired to do so, and why wouldn't you? Whether you support the Governor or not (I do), it's a chance to be part of a piece of Wisconsin history.

In my experience there is also the "non-mandatory but you'd better do it." phenomenon. The name John Hiller (of Scott Walker bid-rigging accusations) inspired memories from a relative who was once employed by the Hiller family, who are big names not only in local real estate but also Wisconsin Right to Life. The relative was frequently confronted with right-wing petitions. The employees, mostly young and worried about their jobs, signed.

Chris, I agree that this is a remarkable time in state history.

Annie, a teacher of my acquaintance who had intended to teach for several more years faced layoff or early retirement. The district lost a warmhearted, committed teacher who spent many extra hours tutoring, etc., caring deeply for the young minds in their charge. This was not MPS. This is a story that has taken place in nearly every school district in the state. The result is larger class sizes and younger, less experienced teachers.

A Republican acquaintance who used to work in a MPS middle school (now a post-secondary instructor) shared heartbreaking stories of the urban classroom environment. The school became a refuge from the the street and problems at home--until yanked out to babysit, etc., One morning a drunk parent burst into the classroom and screamed at their 8th grader, who cried. It's a special teacher who keeps trying! They are the ones being forced to retire.

@Bren -

As you can clearly see from the employees that have taken the time to post on this board, the event was wholly voluntary, with many attending and some abstaining. So drop the conspiracy theories on this one!

If your friend is such a dedicated teacher, and especially now that she's retired, why doesn't she still tutor? What's stopping her from continuing to teach exactly? It's certainly not Scott Walker!

See my earlier response to Anti on the "conspiracy theory" nonsense. Unless you consider Fox News a clandestine meeting place, the strategy to de-fund the Democratic Party and make Barack Obama a one-term president is right out there:

State "conspirator" Scott Fitzgerald: http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/03/09/wisconsin-senate-leader-admits-union-busting-bill-is-about-defeating-obama/

National "conspirator" and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell: http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2011/07/10/mcconnell-stopping-obamas-re-election-still-single-most-important-goal/

I tend to consider conspiracy theories as paranoid fantasies, by and large. Strategy? Yes. Seditious? Yes. Conspiracy theory? Not so much.

Concerning the acquaintance, of course she still tutors. But badly misses the classroom. I don't know anyone who wouldn't take early retirement over losing the compensation you have contributed toward for decades. A terrible shame. If not for Scott Walker, this acquaintance would still be pursuing their vocation full-time. A born teacher.

The problem is, they were'nt paying attention.
SCOTT WALKER did exactly what he said he would do.
For instance, WEAC webpage had the platforms of Barrett and Walker on it back in 2010. They spelled out what Walkers plans were for Collective Bargaining. If you go back through my blogs for over a year, you'll find that I have consistently questioned the wisdom of recalling the governor at this time. My desire has been and remains to capture at least one chamber of the legislature.

I also don't deny that we have significant fiscal problems, both nationally and state wide. However, I seriously question the case for causality made by the governor and others in the right wing blaming it on public employees. The true cause of the current economic problems can be traced directly to three decades of bad business management, greed and deregulation of financial services. The governor is a political opportunist that has done everything in his power to grow his own personal power as he prepares for his next move onto the national stage.

I don't understand his committment to values that turns the clock back five decades. His divide and conquer strategy is uncharacteristic of long established Midwest values.

Bren

12:09 pm on Saturday, June 2, 2012

I've laid out my own case for recall. However, I believe that many voted strictly on party lines, and others wanted a change from how Doyle did things. The recession pummeled the last 18 months of the Doyle administration (as it did everyone/everything else). Walker promised 250,000 new jobs in his first term. Who wouldn't want that? But while those with financial understanding knew that wasn't really feasible others believed. Walker also claimed he would negotiate with public unions (documented. ALEC union stripping was never part of his campaign platform or he would never have been elected). No reason for people unfamiliar with Walker's antics as County Executive to disbelieve it. And Walker was elected (with help from Barrett's campaign strategists, one of the worst outings I've seen, shame on them).

So tell me what's different? Like Doyle, Walker has restructured debt. While not technically adding new "debt," he has added $153 million in new interest charges. Still money out of the cash register, isn't it. Unlike Doyle, Walker went on the airwaves claiming we had a "surplus." Etc.

Doyle's and Thompson's longevity was due to diplomacy--the ability to annoy everyone equally. Walker faces recall in his first term. I suggest that this isn't simple due to a lack of skill, but because he isn't actually "our" governor. He's in office to check off ALEC cookie-cutter agenda points which don't match our state's real needs or issues. Hence the dissonance.

Neville Chamberlain's forte was diplomacy as well. Look how well that worked out.

For years previous Wisconsin Governor's used the WEA, NEA, AFSCME cookie cutter agendas. Now a conservative group comes along with legislation that makes alot of sense and Bren equates them to the Illuminati.

Anti, the Illuminati were a secret organization of Enlightened freethinkers (logic/reason). What, may I ask, is "freethinking" about a governor who signs off on cookie cutter legislation written by a profit-at-all costs special interest group? It is the antithesis of enlightened logic/reason. It is base greed and opportunism.

Scott Walker presents himself as an innovator, a reformer. He is a puppet, a regressor. The most offensive element of all of this is that other extremists have a passion, a goal, distorted as most of us would see it (religion, anarchy, etc.). The goal here is unadulterated greed, couched as whatever targeted constituencies may be duped into believing it to be and it is sickening.

Anti, you're all over the map today, from Neville Chamberlain to the Illiterati. If I am a "conspiracy theorist," then it's a darn big conspiracy and Fox News/News Corp. is its high priest. Here's a link that provides a "secret" Fox News interview with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, where he shares the "conspiracy:" "The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president," The long term goal is to make America a one-party dominant country; that party of course being greed-friendly. We have already seen traditional Republican incumbents beaten in primaries by extremely well-funded Tea/ALEC candidates.

Is this a strategy? Yes. Is it seditious/anti-American? I believe it is. But is a wacky conspiracy theory? Absolutely not. Let's keep it real.

@Bren -
Conspiracies either contain or are founded upon a secret agenda that isn't made known to the public at large.

As you've pointed out, the desire to make Obama a one term President has been publicly revealed and is out there for all to see - there is no secret about it, ergo, as Anti has stated, there is no conspiracy regarding this agenda, it's simply a political tactic.

Contrast to your diatribes about ALEC. No where on ALEC's website does it state "our goal is to screw over the poor and middle class so that the wealthy elite can rape them dry," correct? And yet, that is exactly what you would have us believe about the ALEC agenda. As ALEC doesn't promote itself in the way in which you describe their motives, your unfounded believe would indeed constitute a secret agenda. And, as we've already established, a secret agenda is a component, if not the foundational element, of a conspiracy theory.

Did I really need to explain that to you?

Bren, here is an example of cookie cutter legislation that 48 states passed. It's known today as the 19th amendment to the United States Constitution, but during ratification it was known as the Women's Suffrage Amendment.

Obviously, all 48 state legislatures (at that time) knew it was a good piece of legislation, so it was passed. Much can be said of the ALEC agenda. When a piece of legislation is a good idea, why shouldn't all states use it?

And ultimately, it is up to each state's legislature to take the vote.

Your sarcastic humor aside, I hope that what I post has provided motivation for carefully researching candidates and not voting along party lines. From the DOJ press release:

One team will operate in each of the following communities: Appleton, Green Bay, Racine/Kenosha, Waukesha, Eau Claire, Wausau, Janesville/Beloit and La Crosse."

Sure looks like the DOJ is most worried about shenanigans happening in Milwaukee and Dane Counties, doesn't it? And, just as I said before, aren't the Democratic hotbeds in the state Milwaukee and Dane Counties? Not to mention the other cities on the watch list, other than Waukesha of course.

I'm sure Bucky's post election screen name will be "I Voted 4 Trivedi," because he'll be too embarrassed to admit that he voted for 3 time loser Barrett!

Courage. The courage to destroy unions that help ensure a fair working wage for the middle class. The courage to remove the bargaining rights of public employees. The courage to kick 30K kids off BadgerCare. The courage to weaken our fine system of public universities and vo-tech schools. The courage to pander to the Koch Bros. The courage to cash a $500K check from a single woman. The courage to set up a $100,000 defense fund and still claim he's not the target of an investigation. Let's have the courage to kick him our of office.

@GD Freethinker -

Can you name one thing that the Koch Bros have received out-of-the-ordinary from our state government since Walker's been office?

If you're wrong about this point... well, do I really need to run through the rest of your nonsense?

Proof once again that Barrett and the Dems are targeting the low information, non-thinking voter!

I'd like to see proof of the 30,000 kids that were kicked off of BadgerCare.

Ever notice how Brash has trouble forming a rational thought ? He can't dispute factual information in an intelligent fashion so he resorts to name calling & unwarranted attacks on those with whom he so vehemently disagrees. Loser is an apt description of both Brash & the lefty-wing candidates he habitually supports.

Oh, Brash is a Doper too.

Brash Brazen lives in KALIFORNIA and won't be voting for Tom Barrett... Brash Brazen also has the IQ of a chimpanzee so take his opinion for what it's worth, not much.

More jobs lost in Wisconsin between March 2011 & March 2012 the most of any state under Scott Walker's guidance. The news today is that he's about to be indicted on Federal corruption charges,which explains why he's the only Governor who needs a legal defense fund. Too bad they don't handcuff him & drag him away with his jacket over his head the day before the recall election !!! I know too much to hope for,but it would sure make the Koch brothers brown their bermudas !!! Note: Unlike Walker supporters I don't need to be paid to spread lies,I dispense the truth free of charge. Like Harry Truman said - "I don't give them hell,I just tell the truth & they think it's hell." You'll all be whining like babies on Wednesday if your boy loses, & I can't wait to here Walker's concession speech where he blames everyone but himself for his colossal failure !!!

@Brash -

Here's a little advice: lay off the Daily Kos, as it's really starting to rot your brain, and go back to watching the Jersey Shore - your intelligence will actually improve!
