Thousands Stroll Zoo on Family Free Day
The day didn't start out too well, but that didn't stop families from spending the day at the Milwaukee County Zoo.
Saturday dawned cold and dreary, but by noon turned sunny and warm, and droves of people turned out to take advantage of free admission to the Milwaukee County Zoo. The free day was sponsored by North Shore Bank and Fox 6.

Have you guys thought about using a free photo editor? Or stand still while taking photos? Or perhaps taking better pictures? it looks like someone just held up the caerma and snapped not takign care of what they were photograhping.

Truth is, Kasie, the plan was pretty much as you guessed and didn't like – to move through the throngs at the Zoo at the speed people were moving and to snap as many shots as possible, many of them literally shot from the hip, so that people would not notice they were being photographed and have any chance to react to the camera. I put up all the pictures that were more or less in focus without editing because the idea was to get as many bodies and faces as possible. I also didn't take the time to straighten or enhance the photos because a.) I wanted the final slideshow to be an organic representation of that approach, and 2.) I wanted to post it as soon as possible to present a "the moment is now" timeliness to the event. It's a collage that is intended to grab a "you were just there" feeling rather than an aesthetic. I'm sorry you didn't like it, but it's just a different approach than you like, and I hope that does not dampen your interest in Wauwatosa Patch. I'm a writer and editor by profession, not a photographer, so when I create a concept around images I have to take my own shortcomings into account. I could have taken more time and edited more carefully, but there's no guarantee that I would have created a better finished production. I made a choice to shoot fast and furiously and just pile on the images for eight minutes, which is a lot in anyone's time. Maybe it was a poor choice, but it was not unthought. If you're interested in freelancing, let me know.
