Tosa Spartans Hope for Iron Bowl Revenge
Wauwatosa's semi-pro stars are tired of being stymied by the defending champion Madison Mustangs, who beat them in last year's Iron Bowl XV and slapped them with their only regular-season loss this year.
Not all the Saturday night action in Wauwatosa is on the stages at Tosafest.
Game time for Iron Bowl XVI is 7 p.m. at Hart Park Stadium.
This is the third time in five years Wauwatosa's gridiron semi-pros have gone to the championship game, and with a 10-1 record, they face the only team that has beat them this year – the perfect 11-0 and defending champion Madison Mustangs.
That game was a thriller played in Middleton in which the Mustangs had to come from behind to score in the final minute for a 28-24 win over the Spartans. The Mustangs are four-time Iron Bowl champs.
Other than that close loss, Tosa's Spartans have enjoyed a great year, with 20 players named league all-stars, 16 of them on the first team.
But the Mustangs always seem to stand in the way. Saturday's game is a rematch of Iron Bowl XV, with Madison taking the trophy.
Win or lose, there's to enjoy before, during and after the game.
Sponsor Leff's Lucky Town, right across State Street from the stadium, is hosting an Iron Bowl Kickoff Party that starts at 3 p.m., when the Wisconsin Badgers take on the Oregan State Beavers in a televised matchup.
During the party, Iron Bowl tickets will be pre-sold at $9 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $5 for kids.
During the Badger game, Leff's will feature the following food and drink specials:
