On a warm Friday night in St Francis, the Wauwatosa West High School Trojans beat the St. Francis Mariners by a score of 50-6.
This was the first conference game for both teams, and the Trojans are now 1-0. For Tosa fans looking for explosive, big plays – this game provided plenty to see.
Mickey Morgan, West’s do-it-all senior wingback had a memorable night. In the first offensive series of both the first and second halves, he exploded for touchdown runs of 60 yards and 74 yards.
Other first-half touchdowns were a 50-yard scamper by junior halfback Jameson Brock, a 7-yard burst by Morgan and a 3-yard dive by junior fullback Greg Lewis.
Another pair of touchdowns came from junior Develyn Ferguson. Late in the first half, Ferguson got free on a post pattern and hauled in a 51-yard pass from the Trojan’s junior quarterback Jared Morzinski. Ferguson also scored West’s final touchdown of the night early in the third quarter when he scooped up a Mariner fumble and returned it 40 yards.
West controlled play on offense and defense – and much of the credit goes to their very effective line and linebacker play, let by a host of talented seniors. In the second half, several Tosa West sophomores had their first taste of varsity football.
In the stands, West fans were optimistic about the coming season, but knew that things will get tougher, starting this week in the Trojan’s first home football game of the year against Whitnall High School.
Game time is 7 p.m. Friday at the Wauwatosa West campus. Check the school’s website for updates and information on freshman and junior varsity schedules.
