Trojans Drop 42-7 Decision at South Milwaukee

Fumble recovery and quick drive leads to first score for West, but little goes right after that.

The Wauwatosa West Trojans rolled into South Milwaukee to battle the Rockets for their Homecoming game on Friday.

Despite scoring first, the Trojans were unable to avoid their fourth consecutive loss, falling 42-7. West fell to 1-4 in the league and 1-5 overall.

The Trojans drew first blood after Greg Lewis pounced on a fumble by South Milwaukee’s Mat Tagye at the Trojans' 45-yard line.

Lewis made the first move as he lunged to the outside for a 17-yard gain. Another 5-yard run by Lewis set the stage for the first pass of the game.  Quarterback Jared Morzinski hooked up with Mickey Morgan for a 37-yard catch and run down to the Rockets 1-yard line. Morzinski would finish the drive with a quarterback sneak up the middle and into the end zone for the touchdown.  The extra point gave the Trojans a 7-0 lead.

However, it would go downhill from there.

The Trojans would force the Rockets to punt after their first possession, and would return the favor three plays later.  South Milwaukee’s Austin Stueck would field that punt at midfield and take it the distance for a 50-yard touchdown.  The extra point attempt sailed wide, leaving the score at 7-6 in favor of the Trojans.

It seemed clear though that the punt return completely changed the momentum of the game.

Another three-and-out by the Trojans led to another punt, giving the Rockets the ball on the Trojans 39 yard line.

Three straight runs by Tagye, including a 25-yard effort, set up his 4-yard run for the go-ahead touchdown.  Again the extra point attempt would fail, giving South Milwaukee a 12-7 lead at the end of the opening quarter.

The two teams traded possessions before the Rockets staged a five-play drive that resulted in a 5-yard touchdown run by Chris Krakau.  South Milwaukee converted on the two-point conversion and took a 20-7 halftime lead.

The second half wasn’t any gentler to the Trojans as they would give up a 34-yard touchdown run to the Rockets' Trevor Stauner early in the third quarter.  Another two-point conversion made it 28-7.

The Trojans would cough up the football on their next play, giving the Rockets the ball on the Trojans' 32-yard line.

The very next play saw the Rockets go deep for a 32-yard touchdown pass from Pat Berg to Austin Stueck to make it 35-7 after the extra point.

Early in the fourth quarter the Rockets would close out the scoring with a 4-yard touchdown run from Tagye to make the score 42-7.

West is at Greenfield on Friday.
