A Gov. Scott Walker supporter was arrested at the Tom Barrett rally Friday morning after former President Bill Clinton made an appearance.

A vocal supporter of Gov. Scott Walker was arrested for disorderly conduct Friday during a rally for Democrat Tom Barrett that featured former President Bill Clinton.

During the morning rally at Pere Marquette Park in Milwaukee, the Walker supporter was holding a sign that read "Support Scott Walker NOT Union Thugs." In the middle of the crowd, he would put his sign in front of other signs supporting Barrett.

One Patch reader gives her take on the events:

"My husband and I were at the rally standing six feet from him 15 minutes before the rally began, during, and when he was arrested as the rally ended," she writes. "Even before the rally began he was screaming at people near him that held recall signs. Get out the vote volunteers flanked him to make sure he was safe even as he was screaming at people and acting as if he could hit people with his sign.

"An elderly woman asked him to have some manners so she could hear the speakers. He became more belligerent, and when the president took the stage, he became louder with non-stop yelling at people in his close proximity and at the president. You could not hear the president anymore as the guy was yelling at everyone around him and the president."

Milwaukee police ultimately intervened and cheers erupted from the crowd as police took him away. There were no injuries.

Anne E. Schwartz, spokeswoman Milwaukee Police Department, said it was the arrest at the rally.

Of course there's a double standard...at the Fitzgerald/Compas debate, the commentator asked for complete silence. The Compas (union voice) supporters were the first to hoot and hollar, but nothing was done about it...Conservatives have come to expect this. I just pray to God our Governor wins this. Then hopefully the union parasites will go away for a while.

The man arrested was my son. He called me early this morning to tell me he was attending the rally. I told him to be careful. As a Tea Party organizer in Florida, I am proud of my son. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps and the oath that he took to protect and defend the Constitution has not expired.

How many times are we going to hear from liberals that President Obama has been a great leader given the state of the country that he inherited.

What's worse........squandering an inheritance full of richness and opportunity.....or an admission your inheritance was beyond your ability to cope and lead?

Since when has it become acceptable for Americans to offer excuses in the absence of success.

Barack Obama has not earned the trust of the American people. The last four years have been a wasted oppoutunity and an excuse for failure.

There is a remedy.

Vote for Mitt Romney in November.

But first.........defeat Barack Obama in Wisconsin next Tuesday.

@Barry Willoughby -- "How many times are we going to hear from liberals that President Obama has been a great leader given the state of the country that he inherited."

As many times as it takes to get it through people's heads.

"What's worse........squandering an inheritance full of richness and opportunity.....or an admission your inheritance was beyond your ability to cope and lead?"

George Bush did the first -- took an economy and a country in reasonably good shape and drove them off a cliff. And you blame his successor for not being able to fix it fast enough?

As I said, I defend your son's right to be there and speak his mind. But,like father, like son -- you're both deluded.

If there was no touching involved, then Walker should pardon this individual immediately!

In regards to in regards to in regards to in regards to, protesters, and, in regards to in regards to and also in regards to arrests, and, in regards to in regards to double standards, one would expect a sort of in regards to in regards to a situational policing here, in regards to in regards to there being somewhat of a difference in regards to in regards to what the Milwaukee Police Department will tolerate as FREE SPEECH and in regards to in regards to what the Madison Police Department will tolerate as FREE SPEECH. In other words, Milwaukee Police are NOT going to put up with the kind of BOOLAH that goes on in Madison... and they simply do not care if you are a Walker supporter or a Barrett supporter... if you “act out too much” you are going to be arrested and taken to jail…

Furthermore, Walker has already said he will pardon his, to date, 13 sycophants who were given immunity so they could testify against him... enough with all this pardoning already… who do you folks think this guy is Gerald Ford pardoning the most corrupt president ever? Ahh… that would be the great REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT: Richard Millhouse Nixon…

In regards to in regards to and, also in regards to, yes, of course, Nixon was a great president… masterminded [Burglary] at Watergate, talked at length to the portraits of dead presidents, while stumbling around in the White House in a drunken haze… clearly stated in an interview with David Frost, that, “If a president does something [Anything] it is NOT against the law.” Was this not the first president to resign, simply to avoid being impeached? Was not this the guy whose lasting testimony to his presidency was, “I am not a crook!” Was this not one of the greatest anti-Semites, ever…?

Yes, of course, Nixon was a great president…

In regards to in regards to and, also in regards to GREATNESS, I do suspect that in regards to and in regards to that issue, we are probably on different planets… and yours is clearly not planet earth…

Funny how Hoffa didn't judge Clinton based upon his extra-Presidential (personal) activities over on those boards, and yet those seem to be the only things that you can even see about Nixon, many of which have questionable factual support.

Hmmm… then again, Tate's and Zielinski's strategy of advancing no answer/solution candidates that do nothing but attack Walker personally is starting to make perfect sense, as it would appear that is what unhinged liberals, like yourself, are attracted to!

I'll defend Nixon and Walker to the grave, in the same way that I also defend Carter - with the facts instead of a personal judgment. Character is subjective and wholly within the eye of the beholder to determine. Meanwhile, facts are objective and only open to interpretation. It's much easier to engage in discussion with another about people we obviously both have never personally known, with facts as opposed to subjective analysis, isn't it?

CHARACTER is what you are down to your core and it forms the foundation for all that you do, every act that you take references back to your character…

Defiance is a rather childish personality trait and it does suit you, however, it changes
NOTHING! With folks like you, even the FACTS are subjective, thus making any meaningful dialog just plain useless and silly. Your verbiage is full of sound and fury, signifying absolutely NOTHING…

You will respond to every post, compulsively driven to do so – you must have the last word.

On policy, both Nixon and Kissinger, early in Nixon’s administration, agreed that the Vietnam War was not ‘Winnable’ in any conventional sense of the word, however, that did not stop them from making the calculation to bomb Cambodia, thus expanding the war, and this, while we were losing 1000 brave men a week! [Sociopath] Nixon knew the war was lost, knew he would lose his political base if he were to bring our troops home, so he escalated and set about with the strategy of Vietnamization - the South Vietnamese would stand up and we would stand down - and on the political side, the politics of polarization [See Moammmar Walker on the latter]. This was all calculated to keep Tricky Dick in power; although he won the election by the slimmest of margins, and show [falsely] that, we were making progress in Vietnam.

There are many good reason(s) that Jimmy Hoffa and bin Laden are now sleeping with the fishes…

MKE ordinance defines disorderly conduct as causing a disturbance in public. If this guy would've just kept his voice down instead of shouting at people, he would've shown dignity and strength. By just standing with his sign and being there, he would've irritated the Barrett people and gotten his point across.

@Gardenlady -

Who's debt is it that he's restructuring/deferring? Not his own. Try his three predecessors, and especially Big Daddy Doyle. Under Walker, there has been no new original public debt offerings.

But, if you would have preferred that he paid off this debt, then I guess you're advocating for even deeper budget cuts and/or even more state public sector employees being laid off, right? Remember, raising taxes and borrowing even more money isn't an option.

Not to mention that Walker was judicially obligated to pay back the segregated funds that Doyle raided, as well as paid off our outstanding tab with the state of Minnesota that Doyle had opened, otherwise, he just may have had some money with which to pay off the previously acquired outstanding debt obligations. Wis Dems certainly didn't have a problem with the restructuring, did they?

But now Barrett does! Then please tell us, how would Barrett handle the debt situation differently? He won't say, will he? So, let's look at what he did in Milwaukee - leveraged the city like some piss poor South American country to the point that its debt rating was recently downgraded yet again! And that is what you want for the entire state?

REALLY???

@Robert Merlin -

You must have missed the part wherein I stated "Try his THREE PREDECESSORS, and especially Big Daddy Doyle."

McCallum would be one of Walker's three predecessors as Governor, would he not? But Doyle was in fact the worst and owns all of the original new debt offerings, segregated fund raids, opening a debt with the state of Minnesota, raising taxes when he expressly promised during his campaign that he wouldn't, etc of his administration - not to mention that he did all that despite having received and spent the largest federal stimulus funds that the state had ever seen.

So what exactly is your point?

Comment_arrow

Randy1949

1:28 pm on Saturday, June 2, 2012

@JRH -- Care to list where and how Jim Doyle raised taxes? When state revenues aren't meeting expenditures, which course of action do you think is better -- to raise income taxes or to make cuts to revenue sharing that places the burden onto local property taxpayers? Not that both didn't happen under Doyle, but which form of taxation do you feel is the fairest?

Comment_arrow

James R Hoffa

2:24 pm on Saturday, June 2, 2012

@Randy1949 -

See as how you answered your own question about where and how Doyle raised taxes, I won't bother with that one.

As to "which form of taxation do you feel is the fairest," Hoffa personally doesn't see how any form of taxation is fair unless the government is being a good and responsible steward of the public trust and advocating for effectiveness and efficiency in the services it provides. Seeing as how local level leaders are elected to both tax and spend as they see fit for certain services, then I would have to say that local taxation is fairer, wouldn't you?

Governor Snyder in Michigan got tired of cities like Flint constantly operating their budget upon expected reliance from the state government to bail out its bad decisions. So, he came up with the emergency manager law that has the liberals outraged. But honestly, if the people of the state as a whole are being expected to constantly come to the rescue of bad leadership, then why shouldn't the state just be running such entities in the first place? Doesn't that make sense?

If people want to constantly vote for fiscally irresponsible local leadership, such as RUSD or MPS here, then why shouldn't they have to suffer the consequences of their own actions via higher local level taxation - as after all, it's what they voted for! But why should the whole of the state have to suffer if that isn't what the whole of the state voted for?

Then he was arrested. There was media shots off and on of him yelling at people during the event. I'll bet those videos will be out there soon.

While the young man arrested did have a right to be there, with his sign, he showed very poor judgement by assuming a threatening posture to people nearby. But perhaps that was his intention as there were a few other people there with similar signs, and they did not scream in the faces of elderly people or others, and there were no altercations between them and the crowd or law enforcement.

Under that standard, every single counter-protestor at the Tax Day Rally, Celebrate Walker Rally, Walker's speeches at the rest area openings and State Fair opening day celebrations, and basically every other conservative rally held over the last year and a half, where the collective goals of the counter-protestors was constantly trying to drown out the invited speakers with chants or noise, should have also been arrested. Not to mention all of the protestors that occupied the Capitol and made it impossible for others to peaceable enjoy the building during their selfish occupation. Wonder how many people were there just to get a glimpse of Bildo? Saw a comment on twitter that summed a lot of this up... "This guy is 65 years old and he's getting hit on by porn stars. This guy is a god"--Overheard at Clinton-Barrett rally.

You state the "freedom of speech" issue is the main driver for you to vote, then you launch into your hatred of Clinton in general, and quote somebody's gibberish off of a Twitter. Your comments have a very small chance of switching a single "independent" voter, except in the Democratic direction.
What parties are you trying to indepenently decide between, the American Fascist Party and the John Birch Society?

From JSOnline: "While there were hundreds of Barrett signs throughout the park, one Walker supporter stood nearby holding a sign that said, "Support Scott Walker, Not Union Thugs."

After Clinton spoke, the man moved forward to a rope line where Clinton was shaking hands and posing for pictures. Asked by police officers to back away, the man apparently refused.

He was later taken away by officers and was arrested. An officer said the man would be charged with disorderly conduct."

Call me crazy, but the minute we allow these principles to be subverted by popular acceptance of the "realiz[ation] that it simply is that way," well, that's the minute that we start to lose who we are as a people and as a nation, isn't it?

Clinton wont change anything. If your undecided in this election than your in a cave. My prediction is Walker 54 % Barrett 46%.. Barrett wants to be governor and abandon his own disaster in Milwaukee but Voters like specifics and he doesn't have any. That translates into more of what failed in the past and it cost him this any chance he thought he had in this election election.
Ironically Obama has the same strategy that isnt not working.. He cant run on his awful record and to be even with Romney at this point isnt good for him . History shows if the sitting President doesn't have a cushion this early in the election phase . He loses.. In fact, Jimmy Carter polled better vs Reagan than Obama vs Romney at this point in the 1980 election cycle and was blown out on election day . Obama would have come in for Barrett except he knows Barrett is gonna lose.
You see, Gov. Walkers reforms are working.
After June 5th, jobs will necessarily skyrocket in WI. just like they will after Nov. 6th when we remove Obama as well.

The fact that GOP chairputz Reince Priebus is ginning up the voter fraud nonsense indicates that the polling is showing the race at dead even.

If the people of Wisconsin win on Tuesday the barflies will be belching and whining about voter fraud. But bear this in mind. Bush spent $7 MM of your tax money and found not fraud.

The lawbreaker was carrying a hateful sign on a tall pole near the podium. He was acting in a belligerent manner and refusing police orders. The Secret Service has different standards for protecting current and former Presidents, and well they should, as there have been many Presidential assassinations and attempts over the years. The Secret Service protects the Bushes today, father and son, should we ask them to be more liberal in allowing belligerent people to approach the stage with potential weapons? The Secret Service was not at the Capitol gatherings last year, not their jurisdiction. Walker does not qualify.

Bullies are crybabies, poor baby Marine. Take your punishment like a real man for being an over the top troublemaker, and potential attacker of a President. Daddy and mommy and big sis and brother on these pages will sympathize with you, but you asked for it, and you got it.

He was about 30 feet from the podium, in my close proximity during the rally. Secret Service were all over the place at the rally and including on the balconies. As the crowd moved forward to shake the President's hand at the end of the rally, those of us holding signs were told to step back from the President. Everyone complied with that request, except the Walker supporter in question, but he became even more belligerent and directed it at the cops, refusing to calm down and listen to them. A Barrett supported approached him to get in his face and the police told the Barrett supporter to back off. He did. The Walker supporter refused to comply with a directive that was intended first to keep the President safe, and second to keep BOTH Walker and Barrett supporters safe in a terribly unpredictable situation. Watching that man escalate during the rally, I felt terrible, knowing this was not going to end well, because the man just seemed unable to respond to reason.

That's one thing I learned from watching the Lacy inquest many years ago -- when the police tell you to do something, do it. It may not be right of them, but you do it anyway.

People who weren't there can't judge the potential for violence with emotions running very high.

I do not agree with this man's opinions, but I am outraged that he eventually was arrested for expressing them. Who cares what his sign said? Why was he arrested? Did he cause physical harm to someone? Judging from what was seen on the video (and I am aware that it was edited; how much I guess we'll never know), it looks to me that the police were called in after the rally supporters ran out of ideas and words to defend their position. I'm not saying that's what actually happened, but it certainly seemed to appear that way.

Like I said earlier, I don't agree with the counter-protester's position. But, with that being said I really think people in this country need to find their proverbial sack. People on both sides get waaayyy too easily offended. And, um, I hate to tell you America...but your schadenfreude is showing. Relax. Calm down. Take a deep breath, and then engage yourselves in some constructive, intelligent discourse. Who knows? You may come up with some ideas, which is a far cry better than the beliefs you so stubbornly cling to (I'm talking to BOTH sides of the political spectrum).

Yes, a lie is better than logic for Republicans and Tea Party folks!

Editorial: Why are Walker allies so rattled by early voting?

......But does Wisconsin have a voter fraud problem?

Election officials do not see it. Good government groups such as the League of Women Voters, Common Cause and the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign say there is no such problem. And Richard Saks, a Milwaukee lawyer who has worked extensively on voter ID law cases, says: “The allegation that there is any kind of meaningful or significant or extensive vote fraud in Milwaukee or anywhere else in Wisconsin is totally erroneous."................

In response to Priebus’ contention that GOP candidates “need to do a point or two better” to counteract fraudulent voters, Saks told the Wisconsin Radio Network: "We forecast a turnout of two and a half million votes in the election on June 5. Two percent of that would be 50,000 votes that would be fraudulently, unlawfully cast, which is an outrageous allegation."

Saks is right, of course.

But that's unlikely to prevent Walker, Priebus and their media echo chamber from continuing to spew their bile.

They're going to need an explanation for the enthusiasm that this recall election has generated among Wisconsinites.

And, apparently, a lie will do.

What purpose does this selectively edited video serve? They show the man arguing with others (no problem), then the video cuts to him after being handcuffed. Obviously something happened in between. What was it? Someone on another blog said he was trying to block the TV cameras with his sign. Is that true?

Considering the number of counter-protesters who were there, the fact that only one was arrested seems to indicate that the police were not basing decisions about arrests on political reasons. Post the whole video and let us judge for ourselves. What you have posted here is a propaganda film.

Seems this Walker supporter WAS out of line.

See the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, "Clinton fires up Democratic faithful."

Clinton spoke in the very spot he appeared with former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl in May 1996. Clinton reminisced a little about his visits to Wisconsin as candidate and president, and said he remembered Milwaukee schoolchildren singing to him and Kohl in German.

While there were hundreds of Barrett signs throughout the park, one Walker supporters stood nearby holding a sign that said, "Support Scott Walker, Not Union Thugs."

After Clinton spoke, the man moved forward to a rope line where Clinton was shaking hands and posing for pictures. Asked by police officers to back away, the man apparently refused.

He was later taken away by officers and was arrested. An officer said the man would be charged with disorderly conduct.

@morninmist -

Others were allowed near the rope but this man wasn't - WHY? Just because of the political message he was conveying, that somehow makes him "out of line." Then ALL of the counter protestors from your side over the last year and half should have been arrested, correct? Honestly how could anything that this guy was doing be anymore obnoxious than constantly and repetitively banging on a drum or blowing on a plastic horn?

To all citizens...this is the voice of reason calling. If there's no cooperation between citizens, there will be no progress. This country and State and its general populace is bigger than any individual billionaires. We HAVE to work together to go forward. Politicians come and politicians go, but the needs of the people remain. It's the sacrifices of individuals, little guys, that have made this country great, not influence peddlers or billionaires who only want legislation that keeps them rich. We all want to do as well as we can in America, but not at the expense of the lives and futures of our children. There comes a time when you have to say, "How can I help", not "What's in it for me and/or my party." Yes, we all have freedoms guaranteed to us in the Constitution, but I doubt that the framers of the Constitution wanted the Constitution to be destroyed by its own guarantees of freedom. What you CAN do is not necessarily what you SHOULD do. Your freedoms have to be tempered with a good dose of common sense. Your cause isn't always right. The way you exercise your freedoms isn't always right either. The divisiveness in Wisconsin, and the paranoia and rudeness it has caused, couldn't have been done better than if a terrorist had sabotaged us. At a time when we need the help of our neighbors and family the most, we are most at odds. The economy is hurting us badly enough that we don't have to hurt ourselves with this contentious and unproductive behavior.

No one said this was going to be easy. For this country to thrive, Greg, you might have to vote against your party's line (which I guess is the Republican party). Democrats will have to do the same. Re-read my total comment. There is work that needs to be done, and it won't get done unless serious compromise occurs. Greg...Working for who? Are you realistic enough to see that Walker's plan is not seen as very good by an awful lot of people in this state? This election will be close. There were a lot of people who signed the recall petition who do not agree with you. No matter who wins, where will the cooperation that will be needed to bring about sensible change come from after all this rancor? The recall is not what is causing no new jobs to be created in the state. It's the lousy economy. The rich want to hang onto their money when times are tough. Trying to raise money from people who are already at the bottom of the economic ladder is not the way to go. All that will accomplish is to reduce the rolls of the middle class, and, eventually, that will cause a country with only an upper and a lower class. That is a prescription for disaster (fascism). What billionaire, influence peddler, or politician do you trust with your and your family's life? Money is power and "Power corrupts". Read history. It is scary.

Thank you for standing firm for what you believe in the face of rapid Barrett supporters spewing hate, including many teachers. For the whole story, view the video Patriot posted on the "Barrett and civil war" string.

This guy is a true hero, both for serving his country and defending his right for peaceful protest (watch the full 6 min video and see what happened before Patch edited the video). One can not watch and not see our hero marine was the one civil, in control and intelligent. The left has given us our new Joe the Plumber (who, in Ohio, was approached by Obama, and was not seeking the spot lite... Check the facts).
