Wauwatosa West Competes in 2013 Rube Goldberg Competition
Students were charged with building a complex machine to complete a simple task in at least 20 steps.
Wauwatosa West was one of 20 Wisconsin high schools that competed Friday in the 2013 Milwaukee Regional Rube Goldberg Machine Contest at Waukesha County Technical College.
The competition involves creating complex machines to complete a simple task. This year’s task was to hammer a nail. The contest challenges students to take an elementary task and provide a complicated solution using ordinary objects and mechanical gadgets — in 20 steps or more. Machines are required to be no larger than 6 feet by 6 feet by 6 feet.
Janesville Craig was the winner; Waunakee was second and Antigo third. Janesville Craig and Waunakee will advance to the national Rube Goldberg Machine Contest on March 16, also at WCTC.
