Week Ahead: Election Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and State Thursday

Two familiar, regular traditions are the key events in Wauwatosa this week.

On Tuesday, three mayoral candidates will be whittled to two in a primary election. Peter Donegan, Kathy Ehley, and John Pokrandt are running; learn more about where they stand on key issues in this article from a public forum on Feb. 13 sponsored by the Wauwatosa Chamber of Commerce and Wauwatosa Patch.

Tuesday also features a primary for the District 1 seat on the Common Council. Jeffrey Kroll, Jim Moldenhauer and Bob Smith are the three candidates. The city website provides a sample ballot. Wauwatosa Patch will preview both races later today.

Wednesday is an important religious holiday for many, marking the start of Lent with Ash Wednesday. Fish fry dinners will abound Wednesday and on every Friday between now and Easter; check out the restaurant directory on Wauwatosa Patch for places to dine while observing the holiday.

Elsewhere around Wauwatosa this week:

• The Common Council meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall. A public hearing is slated on proposed 2012 street improvements.
• On Thursday, eldercare attorney Jaclynn Miller Lephardt will address how to develop an advance directive in the second of three “Caring for Aging Parents” programs at Wauwatosa Avenue United Methodist Church. She is an associate attorney at the Milwaukee firm of Moertl, Wilkins and Campbell, S.C. The event is at 7 p.m.
• Also Thursday, the WIAA state individual wrestling tournament begins at the Kohl Center in Madison. Senior Michael Meade of the Tosa West/East combined team qualified for the tournament in the 132-pound bracket. Meade (35-8) wrestles junior Charles Mulnix of Racine Horlick (32-12) at 3 p.m.  Sixteen wrestlers qualified in each weight class and matches continue through Saturday night.
