Three Wauwatosa wrestlers advanced to the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament and one came home a placewinner.
Freshman Zach Miller at 120 lbs. placed 6th in the tournament held Feb. 21-23 in Madison. In his first match, Miller pinned junior Hunter Hayes of Portage in 3 minutes, 6 seconds. In his second match against Bay Port's Chase Farr, Miller was awarded a win by injury default when he failed to receive medical clearance to finish the match due to an illegal slam.
At 113 lbs., Tosa junior Kai Castenada lost his first match to Ben Hornickle of Burlington, who eventually took 4th place, and then lost to Muskego's Austin Quartullo, who ended the tournament in 5th place.
Tosa sophomore Marcus Morrow at 145 lbs. lost his first match against West Bend East's Jordan Gundrum, who went on to place 4th.
"Zach's 6th place finish is the first ever for a Wauwatosa freshman," said Coach Kent Morin. "He came here to win, and I'm really proud of how he aggressively he wrestled. Kai and Marcus also did well, given that they had extremely tough draws in two of the toughest weight classes this year. To lose to guys who become placewinners is evidence of that."

Nice photos, Jill! It was great fun to see the boys wrestle and have an experience of a lifetime. I can't wait until next year!
