Wauwatosa Avenue United Methodist Church, 1529 Wauwatosa Ave., kicks off its new Community Coffee House season Saturday, Sep. 15 with two hours of jazz and bluegrass music to benefit Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. with music from 7 – 9.
The public is invited to attend. Admission is $6 with children 12-years-old and younger admitted free. Light refreshments will be available for a free-will offering.
Parking is available behind the church off Underwood Avenue in the ramp and surface lot across from the fire station. Enter the building through the southwest door (red roof) or the northwest door off the upper level of the parking structure.
The BtW Jazz Combo will open the evening with a selection of jazz standards and big band tunes in the styles of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald and many others.
After a short intermission, the Hawthorne Hills Band returns to the WAUMC Fellowship Hall by popular demand to offer a mix of original and traditional American songs in bluegrass style.
Proceeds from this fall community coffee house will support WAUMC’s efforts to construct its 13th Habitat for Humanity home. The WAUMC congregation has partnered this year with the Christ King and St. Pius X parishes in Wauwatosa, Emmanuel Community United Methodist Church in Menomonee Falls and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish in New Berlin. The frame is up for the new home at 2230 N. 40th St. in Milwaukee and dry walling is underway.
