‘Caring for Aging Parents’ focus of next WAUMC speaker series

Three programs on “Caring for Aging Parents” will be offered Feb. 16, 23 and March 1 from 7 – 8 p.m. at Wauwatosa Avenue United Methodist Church, 1529 Wauwatosa Ave.

This WAUMC Fellowship Hall Lecture series is free and open to the public.

The first Thursday night session will feature a panel of professionals from Greater Tosa Interfaith, Lutheran Home Adult Day Care Center and VITAS Innovative Hospice Care®. The speakers will offer tips for finding and tapping into a variety of community resources to help meet the needs of older adults.

On Feb. 23, eldercare attorney Jaclynn Miller Lephardt will address how to develop an advance directive. She is an associate attorney at the Milwaukee firm of Moertl, Wilkins and Campbell, S.C.

Pastor Jan Kwiatkowski will speak on the challenges facing the “sandwich generation” and the importance of supporting caregivers. Kwiatkowski is on the faculty of Family Therapy Training Institute and is a member of Milwaukee Mental Health Consultants.

Parking is available behind the church off of Underwood Avenue in either the ramp or surface lot. Enter the building through the southwest door (red roof) just off the surface lot.

Wauwatosa Avenue United Methodist Church dates back to 1848 and began with 42-members. Today, the congregation is 500 strong and firmly committed to inclusiveness, celebrating a diversity of people, ideas and cultures.

WAUMC offers two Sunday services, Christian education classes for individuals ages 3 through adult, a variety of adult and youth music programs and Girl Scout and Boy Scout troops. The congregation is involved with more than a dozen local, national and international mission outreach efforts.
