Fine Weather Makes for a Super Firefly Art Fair

Beautiful gardens on the grounds of a grand home, filled with gorgeous artworks, on two divine days – it felt good at the Wauwatosa Historical Society.

Best ever?

Figuring the success of an art fair is not as simple as saying so many people came through the gate.

With 90 artists exhibiting, all vying for attention, you have to factor in how well each and all felt they did, not just how many people passed by without buying.

That can take awhile, said Janel Ruzicka, administrator of the Wauwatosa Historical Society, headquartered at the Kneeland-Walker House at 7406 Hillcrest Drive, where the fair was held Saturday and Sunday.

But, Ruzicka said Sunday, "It looks like this could be one to top all. We have had a lot of people come through, two good days."

Not everyone buys, but some of the finest weather we've had in Wauwatosa this summer brought plenty of browsers, and a lot were seen walking away with something under their arms.

"Truly, the weather has been fantastic," Ruzicka said.

You can be a member of the Wauwatosa Historical Society for just $15 a year as an individual, $10 as a senior, $25 for your whole household, or $15 for a senior household. Organizations can join for $35, businesses for $50.

The Historical Society and the Kneeland-Walker House, along with the Little Red Store in the Village, are the repositories of Wauwatosa's long and rich legacy. But maintaining that legacy is not free. Consider a membership today.
