Grant Could Move Wauwatosa Skateboard Park Closer to Reality

Wauwatosa couple leading the charge to build skateboard park in Hart Park offer $80,000 challenge grant.

A Wauwatosa couple who became an advocate for building a new skateboard park in Hart Park after their skateboard-loving teenage son died in 2006 are pledging $80,000 toward the cause.

Judy and Mike Doyle are offering up a challenge grant toward the construction of the proposed Tosa Skatepark and are seeking $80,000 each from the city and from Tosa Skateboarders United, the organization trying to build the park, Wauwatosa NOW reports.

If $240,000 can be raised from all three sources, it would be enough to proceed with a 7,000- to 8,000-square-foot park, Judy Doyle told NOW. So far, $30,000 has been raised by the skateboarders group.

The design of the Wauwatosa Skate Park will focus on creating a safe and fun course for skaters and bikers and crafting a park that will enhance and showcase the natural beauty of Hart Park, according the Tosa United Skateboarders' website. The park would be designed to mimic popular street skating elements found within the city, and cater to all skill levels and ages, the group said.
