Schoonmaker Reef: A Wauwatosa Treasure House

A special video slideshow takes you on a tour of a famous fossilized tropical reef that has been hidden for decades but now is being opened up to public view. Watch its history unfold and share our vision for its future.

This special educational video presentation was created to accompany our news story, , which details how the puzzle pieces could come together for Wauwatosa to take charge of one of the world's most important geologic sites.

Schoonmaker Reef is already a National Historic Landmark, but for decades has been hidden behind industrial buildings. Now it has been exposed to public view, although it is still relatively difficult to access and understand.

Wauwatosa Patch is adopting the preservation and restoration of Schoonmaker Reef as its first community service project, and beginning with today's story and this video, we hope many others in Wauwatosa will learn about and help promote this legendary local landmark.
