When is Trick-or-Treating in Wauwatosa?

There are still a few weeks left to decide on costumes and stock up on candy before the citywide trick-or-treating on Sunday.

Goblins and ghouls, princesses, fairies and superheroes will walk the streets on Sunday looking for sweet treats during Wauwatosa's annual trick-or-treat time.

Citywide trick-or-treating will take place from 1 to 4 p.m.

Wauwatosa has more than two dozen recognized neighborhood associations, many of which sponsor nighttime trick or treating on Halloween, which falls on Wednesday that week.

As a rule, neighborhood association trick or treats are for those neighbors and their invited guests only. Check with your neighborhood association to see whether it is participating and, if so, what the hours and boundaries are.

And before you send your little ones to collect their goodies, here are some trick-or-treating safety guidelines from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration:

  • Wear costumes made of fire-retardant materials; look for “flame resistant” on the label.
  • Wear bright, reflective costumes or add strips of reflective tape so you’ll be more visible.
  • Wear makeup and hats rather than masks that can obscure your vision.
  • Test the makeup you plan to use by putting a small amount on the arm of the person who will be wearing it a couple of days in advance. If a rash, redness, swelling, or other signs of irritation develop where the makeup was applied, that's a sign of a possible allergy.
  • Check FDA’s list of color additives to see if makeup additives are FDA approved. If they aren’t approved for their intended use, don’t use it.
  • Don’t wear decorative contact lenses unless you have seen an eye care professional and gotten a proper lens fitting and instructions for using the lenses.
  • Don’t eat candy until it has been inspected at home.
  • Trick-or-treaters should eat a snack before heading out, so they won’t be tempted to nibble on treats that haven’t been inspected.
  • Tell children not to accept—or eat—anything that isn’t commercially wrapped

Here are some more Halloween tips from the FDA, and here are a few more from the Mayo Clinic.

I dislike so much sarcasm in one post. Why not just come out and say something directly?

Steve, I have friends and co-workers whose political leanings vary from far right to far left andRead More everything in between. I certainly wouldn't make decisions "on their future" simply based on whether or not they signed a petition. I value the input I receive from my exposure to their varying viewpoints. It seems awfully petty and shortsighted to base so many decisions on one factor. When I hire an employee, political opinions are not important to me - credentials, experience, work ethic, that's what I look for; I am interested in hiring a competent person, not someone who simply shares my political leanings. You frequently tout yourself as a "producer" - of what, I don't know. Since you so strongly support the idea of making decisions on the litmus test of whether or not someone supports or opposes Governor Walker, I suggest that you let everyone know the name of your company and what you produce. That way, people who share your ideals can support your business and those that don't can make an educated decision as to whether or not they want to work with you.

One battle lost is not the end of the war. Walker has proven to be the biggest loser that this stateRead More has ever seen. We are almost last in every catagory and if your married with daughters all your thier rights have been taken away by your God. Remember when you and Walker take your place in hell the dead will some day walk the earth again.
