Farmer’s Market Hosts Local Artisan Day on Memorial Weekend

Homegrown art and crafts add to this weekend's Farmer's Market selection.

The Tosa Farmer’s Market holds its first special event of the season this weekend, with Artisan Day on Saturday. Along with the regular food vendors, the artisan market will include 15 additional art and craft booths, all open from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. The artisan market will be held in an overflow area alongside the Farmer’s Market site.

Heather Zydek, communications director for the market, said this was the second year that the Farmer’s Market has provided a venue for local artisans to sell handmade items.

“For this special event, we invite area artists and crafters, in addition to the regular market,” said Zydek. Shoppers can still expect to find early spring produce and food at the regular market booths. “We want to be able to feature arts and crafts, but we also want to keep [the market] food-focused.”

Zydek says that the selection of artisans for the event is intended to feature a diversity of wares.

“The selection is juried. We try to mix it up and give a variety of offerings,” she said. This year’s artisan handiwork includes textiles (Sarah Heck), glass work (Throw No Stones Glass), cards (Man vs. George Design) and  purses (Yen for Yarn), along with many others. The next special event day at the Farmer’s Market is Children’s Day on June 25. This event will feature the popular Kohl’s Color Wheels, along with a storyteller, and other family-centered activities.
