Best Hospitals in Metro Milwaukee? They're in Tosa

Froedtert, Children's given top ranking for area facilities, listed among best in nation in a number of specialties.

Two hospitals in Wauwatosa were rated the best overall in the metropolitan area and among the best in the nation in several specialties in a national survey that rates customer satisfaction.

For the first time, U.S. News & World Report’s annual “Best Hospitals” edition identified the top hospitals in 52 major markets nationwide, including Milwaukee. Froedtert Hospital was named as Milwaukee’s best hospital, and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin was recognized in a separate category for children’s hospitals.       

Froedtert is ranked nationally in gastroenterology and is also rated "high-performing" in 10 other adult care specialties, including cancer and heart care.

Children's Hospital  is ranked nationally in six pediatric specialties. It was rated No. 8 in the nation for pediatric heart care and heart surgery.

Out of 4,852 facilities analyzed for the 2010-11 Best Hospitals rankings, only 152 were ranked in any of the 16 specialties, Froedtert and Children's among them.

Froedtert is a 486-bed general medical and surgical facility, and Children's a 236-bed children's general facility. Both are also teaching hospitals affiliated with Medical College of Wisconsin.

Children's, founded in 1894, has consistently been recognized as one of the leading pediatric health care centers in the United States. It is rated No. 3 in the nation by Parents Magazine and is a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center, verified by the American College of Surgeons.

Children's is a leader in blood and marrow transplants, particularly between unrelated donors and recipients, as well as in providing care for critically ill newborns and children with congenital heart disease.
