McKenna Leaving Tosa Chamber for VISIT Milwaukee

She'll be director of development in new metro position after spending two years with Tosa business organization.

After just two years at the helm of the Wauwatosa Chamber of Commerce, Executive Director Meg McKenna is stepping down for a new position with VISIT Milwaukee, the city's convention and visitors' bureau.

"I'll be their director of development," McKenna said. "It's a new position for them."

McKenna said she would be taking up her new duties next Friday, but added that the move has been in the works for some time and there would be a smooth transition at the chamber.

She said she was not yet at liberty to name her successor but the new leadership would be announced next week.

McKenna co-founded MilwaukeeMoms.com with her husband in 2002 and it was later purchased by Journal Sentinel Inc. She was named director of the chamber on Jan. 26, 2010.

In her short time there, McKenna made her mark. She reinvigorated marketing and membership, enlivened the organization's website and introduced social media to many members who had never thought of Facebook and Twitter as business tools.

Along with U.S. Cellular, McKenna hosted a number of "Tweet-ups" in Tosa that drew participants from all over the metro area. She also organized a number of "Mobile Days" events to promote the number of on-the-go businesses springing up recently.

McKenna also partially rebranded the organization, shifting it gradually from the full Wauwatosa Chamber of Commerce to the more casual Tosa Chamber.
