One Way Cafe Expanding Hours, Offerings

Owner Sandy Haeger will try out reopening Friday and Saturday evening with sandwiches and other items and drinks including the possibility of a cocktail.

With the closing of Vino 100 in the Village, Sandy Haeger saw an opportunity to pick a little of the wining and dining slack, and a little business, too.

Her One Way Cafe & Gallery, at 1427 Underwood Ave., is right across the street from the former Vino address. Perhaps those who had the habit of hitting that corner will keep coming.

Haeger, whose hours have been breakfast and lunch, will add evening hours on Friday and Saturday, reopening the cafe from 6 to 9 p.m.

"I'll serve sandwiches and a few other things," Haeger said.

She'll also start featuring live music on Saturdays, another Vino offering now absent.

"It'll be, like, acoustic duos," Haeger said. "Our first night will be Aug. 10."

And one more thing One Way will borrow from Vino – its Class B liquor license.

Liquor licenses are limited but transferable, and up to now Haeger has had a Class C license.

"I've had wine and beer," Haeger said. "This will allow me to serve someone a little cocktail with their dinner -- if the Common Council approves on Aug. 10"

That seems likely enough. Haeger has been a Village business owner for 10 years, and on Tuesday night the council's licensing committee gave its OK.

Besides the new evening hours, One Way Cafe is open 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. weekends.
