Readers' Choice: Mo's Gets the Green Ribbon for Top St. Patrick's Day Setting

Some other nearby, old-line Irish bars in Milwaukee gain a share of votes, but Tosa's only all-Irish establishment takes the prize.

As predicted, the only fully Irish-themed pub in Wauwatosa outpolled all other nominee's as readers' top place to quaff a pint, dish up some corned beef and cabbage, and engage in Gaelic conviviality come St. Patrick's Day.

accounted for 58 percent of the vote – more than the rest combined – among six nominations, three of them not strictly in Wauwatosa but nearby.

Mo's owner John "Johnny V" Vassallo has been known to send his pub managers to Guinness Pub School in Dublin to give them a genuine grounding, and he's even imported tradesmen from the Emerald Isle to provide and authentic sheen to the decor.

Despite the Italian surname inherited from his father, Vassallo has more than enough Irish credibility; all the Mo's pubs and restaurants are named for his mother, Maureen, who's 100 percent Irish.

Mo's is popular year-round – it promises to be hopping Saturday.

A strong second place in our Patch poll went to an iconic pub about 10 blocks outside the cozy confines of Wauwatosa. McBob's Pub and Grill earned 30 percent of all votes, far ahead of the rest of the pack.

In Wauwatosa, and got a couple of votes in spite of the lack of any Irish themes for their generally fine food and St. Patrick's Day menu specials.

On Blue Mound Road nearby in Milwaukee, McGinn's and Derry Hegarty's Pub split about 10 percent of the vote total.
