Readers' Choice: Vote for Your Favorite St. Patrick's Day Place

Mo's may be the oddsmakers' pick, based on its strong theme and a flood of nominations, but there are dark horses in this race, including some not entirely within our borders.

We asked readers to nominate their top choices for places to celebrate St. Patrick's Day, and responses poured in like pints of ale after an Irish wedding or wake.

However, most of those responses, by far, were for one place: .

No surprise, perhaps, since when you think about it Mo's is the only strictly Irish pub that is strictly in Tosa.

One reader replied to our solicitation for the best St. Patty's destination by writing: "At an authentic Irish Pub where the food is made from scratch... Mo's!"

And there were plenty more in the same vein.

But not all. We can't declare a winner until the votes are in, and two other Tosa establishments were nominated, along with one North Avenue outlier.

One reader highly recommended the , for: "A Reuben with homemade corned beef, a fabulous shepherd's pie and an Irish Car Bomb Cake that is to die for!"

Another touted , with its "Happy hour, Guinness steamed mussels, corn beef sliders, Irish whisky glazed salmon, corned beef and cabbage, and Guinness-battered fish 'n chips."

Reader "Angela Q" pulled us over the border about 10 blocks into Milwaukee to McBob's, which Patch deemed acceptable because we are familiar with the quality of its corned beef:

"Okay," Angela wrote," I know (it's) not officially in Tosa – but planning on checking out McBob's for their $2 8 to 10 a.m. breakfast buffet, a bloody Mary with a green beer chaser. Staring out the day right!"

Finally, Patch is going to add two more nominations just to add to the mix, to make it a horse race, and because both belong to the Blue Mound Road Co-Prosperity Zone.

McGinn's is just across the street in Milwaukee and like any good business draws custom toward its Tosa neighbors – plus it's a nice place to relax.

And it just wouldn't seem right not to mention Derry Hegarty's pub, a fixture not far east on Blue Mound.

Derry died just less than a year ago, on April 20, his 76th birthday. Here's to his memory, and a toast to his family for keeping the place alive.

Slainte!
