Blue Mound at Mayfair Road Closing for Rest of Month

As construction continues on local routes leading up to freeway interchange work, major thoroughfares will be closed for about a week and a half.

Blue Mound Road will be closed at Mayfair Road and for a couple blocks west through the end of the month starting Saturday, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Blue Mound will close from Mayfair Road – which is also 108th Street – to 110th Street. Drivers won't be able to cross Mayfair and should take the following detours if they can't avoid the area, according to the DOT website.

Mayfair Road will remain open; westbound traffic on Blue Mound must turn onto Mayfair, and those turning south can get back to Blue Mound via Theodore Trecker Way, Curtis Road and 121st Street.

Those turning north can take a left onto Potter Road and get back to Blue Mound via 115th Street.

Eastbound traffic on Blue Mound should use an alternate route such as Interstate 94 or Greenfield Avenue, the DOT suggested.

Don't think you're free of traffic troubles if your chosen or alternate route is Watertown Plank Road – not only is it also slowed now by construction, it's up next for full closure.

The DOT says that Aug. 1, the day after Blue Mound reopens, Watertown Plank will close in the same fashion until Aug. 10. As with Blue Mound, you'll be able to turn onto Mayfair Road from the east but not from the west.
