Wauwatosa Native's 'Cheesy Garlic Bread' Flavor Flavor Finalist for Frito-Lay Contest

Karen Weber-Mendham is one of three finalists who is up for a chance to win a $1,000,000 and have their flavor join the Frito-Lay family.

A Wauwatosa native has won $50,000 as a finalist in the Frito-Lay Do Us a Flavor contest for her suggested flavor of cheesy garlic bread.

Karen Weber-Mendham has the chance to win $1,000,000 and have her flavor become part of the Frito-Lay family.

The Land O' Lakes resident was inspired by her kids’ love of garlic bread whenever the family goes to an Italian restaurant, reported the Associated Press.

"You're at your favorite Italian restaurant, you're starving & WAITING FOREVER," she wrote on the contest Facebook page. "Finally, the breadsticks come & they save your life!"

Her 13-year-old son Davey encouraged Weber-Mendham to enter the contest, reported the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Davey nagged her until she finally gave in.

She's up against two other rivals that include another Wisconsin native's flavor of chicken and waffles and an Illinois man's flavor of sriracha.

The Wauwatosa native has a Facebook page dedicated to promoting her flavor.

"I'm a soccer/basketball/football/baseball/softball mom of three from Northern Wisconsin," she wrote on the page. "I'm originally from Wauwatosa, WI and was a flight attendant with USAir. Now I'm a children's librarian and a potato chip creator!"

Weber-Mendham graduated from Wauwatosa East in 1985 and then attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, as did the other Wisconsin finalist.

The contestants were flown to Dallas where they met the other finalists, toured the Frito-Lay test kitchens and met the executive chefs, reported the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The contenders' flavors are on the shelf.

To vote visit the Lay's Facebook page; Tweet, by using hashtag #SaveGarlicBread, #SaveChickenWaffles or #SaveSriracha; or by texting "VOTE" to 24477.

Voting ends May 4.

I dislike so much sarcasm in one post. Why not just come out and say something directly?

Steve, I have friends and co-workers whose political leanings vary from far right to far left andRead More everything in between. I certainly wouldn't make decisions "on their future" simply based on whether or not they signed a petition. I value the input I receive from my exposure to their varying viewpoints. It seems awfully petty and shortsighted to base so many decisions on one factor. When I hire an employee, political opinions are not important to me - credentials, experience, work ethic, that's what I look for; I am interested in hiring a competent person, not someone who simply shares my political leanings. You frequently tout yourself as a "producer" - of what, I don't know. Since you so strongly support the idea of making decisions on the litmus test of whether or not someone supports or opposes Governor Walker, I suggest that you let everyone know the name of your company and what you produce. That way, people who share your ideals can support your business and those that don't can make an educated decision as to whether or not they want to work with you.

One battle lost is not the end of the war. Walker has proven to be the biggest loser that this stateRead More has ever seen. We are almost last in every catagory and if your married with daughters all your thier rights have been taken away by your God. Remember when you and Walker take your place in hell the dead will some day walk the earth again.
