Season's First Snow Expected to Usher in More Tonight, Thursday

Snow has finally fallen, setting a record snowless streak that ended at 288 days.

Light snow began falling around noon Tuesday for much of the area with accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, with the lesser amounts occurring along the Lake Michigan shore.

If you sailed through Tuesday, take note that for Wednesday evening the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch will go into effect through Thursday evening. While some areas in far southeastern Wisconsin may see rain or a rain/snow mix, it's expected to change to all snow sometime on Thursday.

The system will gain strength on Wednesday afternoon, developing into a "panhandle hook" to bring much heavier accumulations than what we saw Tuesday.

Snowfall accumulations for that storm are expected to vary from 6 to 10 inches in the north and western counties, with much lower totals to the southeast. Some areas may even experience near blizzard conditions as winds pick up Thursday afternoon to about 35 mph.
