"Murder in Wauwatosa"

Wauwatosa native Paul Hoffman will discuss his recently published book "Murder in Wauwatosa" The Mysterious Death of Buddy Schumacher."

Hoffman’s first book recounts the
events surrounding the disappearance of an 8-year-old Wauwatosa boy who was
missing for seven weeks in 1925. The boy’s body was eventually found seven
weeks later about a mile away near what is today Hansen Golf Course in
Wauwatosa.

The book, published by The History
Press, looks at the twists and turns in the investigation, possible perpetrators,
the state of many social factors of the time as well as some of the good that
eventually came out of this tragedy.

Hoffman was born in Madison and
raised in Wauwatosa, where his father purchased a house sold to him by Buddy’s
father, Art Schumacher, on Hillcrest Drive. Hoffman is a graduate of Wauwatosa
East High School and the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.

He has spent nearly 30 years in
the field of journalism, starting as a sportswriter at the Milwaukee Sentinel. For
the past 12 years, he has been the special publications editor at the Daily
Journal, located in Franklin, Ind. He is a resident of Columbus, Ind., is
married and has a son, three daughters and two stepdaughters.

The book has generated much
interest in the Milwaukee area, including interviews on WUWM radio and WITI
Fox-6 TV. Since the book was released in June, he has also done book signings
and/or talks at the Wauwatosa Public Library, Milwaukee Artists Resource
Network and three central Indiana locations. He is also booked at the Wauwatosa
Senior Center for March 2013.
