Get a Jump on Doors Open Milwaukee Tours

WHAT: Free public tours of Jones Island Wastewater Treatment Plant on
Saturday, Sept. 21 as part of Doors Open Milwaukee. Event attendees will have the
opportunity to learn how wastewater is treated, and the role the process plays
in keeping Lake Michigan clean. While tickets will be distributed at City Hall
each morning for Jones Island tours starting at 11 a.m. and running throughout
the day, attendees can contact Veolia Water directly to get tickets for the 10 a.m.
or 10:30 a.m. tours.

DETAILS:

The tour of Jones Island Wastewater Treatment Plant is an hour long, and
attendees will see the entire 75-acre campus via motorcoach. Visitors will also
have the opportunity to view the production of Milorganite®, an
organic fertilizer, first hand and receive a free, five-pound bag. The treatment plant has been in operation since 1926,
and has been designated
as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark by the American Society of
Civil Engineers



Appropriate
attire is required: flat, closed-toed shoes and long pants. Participants must
be able to walk down five flights of stairs; not suitable for strollers.
