Water Art – A Celebration of Water's Restorative Power Artist Reception

The beauty and restorative power of water will fill the Community Room Art Gallery at Unitarian Universalist Church West in Brookfield with the Water Art exhibit from August 29 to October 10, 2013.  The exhibit features the work of local artists Ellen Anderson, Cari Bravo, Andrea Guzzetta, Brad Krause, Jim Maki, Sarah Seifert, Jerry Styberg, and Steven Yeo.

Abstract as well as landscape works will be on display throughout the show. Most pieces are for sale, and the proceeds will benefit Milwaukee Riverkeeper, whose mission is to protect water quality and wildlife habitat in the Milwaukee, Menomonee, and Kinnickinnic River corridors and to advocate for sound land use in these watersheds.

Each artist in the Water Art show presents their unique interpretation of the theme through a variety of media, including photography, watercolor, acrylic and oil paintings.

Water Art can be viewed between and after worship services on Sundays as well as at an Artists Reception on September 3 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Some artists will be in attendance to answer questions, and art will be available for sale. UUCW is located on the eastern edge of Brookfield at 13001 W. North Ave, minutes west of the North Avenue exit on Highway 45.

About the artists:  Milwaukee native Jerry Styberg (member, Coalition of Photographic Artists – CoPA) is a fine artist whose work has been shown throughout the greater Milwaukee area. Jim Maki is a Bayview artist who taught art education for over 40 years. Cari Bravo began painting when she moved to Milwaukee in 2003, and finds that her art helps her to find balance between her personal and professional life practicing medicine. Andrea Guzzetta is a Milwaukee artist who works with symbolic imagery to question life, death, and the possibility of an afterlife. Her work often explores endings and beginnings of all kinds. Sarah Seifert, a graduate of Loyola University Chicago, has been practicing photography since 2003, attending the annual air show in Oshkosh to hone her skills. Ellen Anderson has been painting professionally for more than 15 years.  In addition to painting, she also works in illustration, and her work has been published in several children’s books.  Brad Krause is a MIAD student who also works in digital art.  Steven Yeo is a member of CoPA (Coalition of Photographic Artists) and has shown his work in many UUCW gallery exhibits.

The Unitarian Universalist Church West Community Room Gallery champions local and non-local emerging and established artists, and strives to build community through the visual arts. The gallery also provides a space for exhibiting artwork that grapples with issues of diversity, tolerance, and social justice, plus art that celebrates the planet and the interdependent web of all existence. Unitarian Universalist Church West values diversity and works to create peace and fight oppression.
