Tosa Plans to Give It Up for Independence Day

A full day and into the night, from parade start to fireworks finale, is planned for Wauwatosa's Fourth.

With one of the longest-standing and largest Fourth of July celebrations in Wisconsin, Wauwatosa will once again go all out for the Founders on Independence Day 2013.

The 80th annual Wauwatosa Independence Day Celebration, as always, is on the day, Thursday, July 4, with the theme "United We Stand."

Things kick off with the traditional parade beginning at 9 a.m. on North Avenue from 104th Street to 80th Street.

The 80th year celebration is one of the largest parades in the state and features over 75 units. This year’s parade will include several new marching bands, floats, veteran groups, antique autos and Special Olympians.

There’s something for everyone in the parade, as this year’s Parade Marshals are WWII Honor Flight Veterans, and several will be present as honored guests of the city.

Wauwatosa's 2012 Distinguished Citizen, Debbie Dubinski, was selected to lead the parade for her past community service and leadership role in civic and athletic clubs.

Events at Hart Park

“Family Fun” at Hart Park will continue the celebration from 4 to 8 p.m. with Music On The Move and its inflatable rides and musical entertainment. Food and drink concessions will also be available.

On the Rotary Performance Stage, beginning at 7 p.m., you can enjoy the  Wauwatosa Esprit Pom and Dance Performances, and at 7:45 p.m. there will be a  special musical performance by Grace Weber.

Fireworks finale

At 9:15 p.m. comes the "Fireworks Spectacular!" sponsored by Froedtert Hospital and the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Fireworks can be viewed best from the Rotary Stage and open area between 70th and 72nd streets. If it rains, the fireworks show will be rescheduled for Friday night.

This Independence Day Program is coordinated by the Wauwatosa Civic Celebration Commission. Wauwatosa's mayor, Kathy Ehley, appoints volunteers to this commission to plan and present two major events for the City of Wauwatosa – the Memorial Day Observance and Independence Day Programs.
