Mount Mary Newspaper Wins National, State Awards

College given several marks of distinction for coverage, design and more.

The student news publication, Arches, has been designated a First Class Newspaper with three marks of distinction in “Coverage and Content,” “Layout and Design” and “Leadership” from the Associated Collegiate Press. The ACP granted the awards after a review of Arches newspapers published in the 2010-11 academic year.

Arches also received several awards from the Collegiate Better Newspaper Contest, sponsored by the Wisconsin Newspaper Association. The annual WNA contest recognizes student achievements in college newspapering for pieces published in the previous academic year.  The judge’s panel is comprised of publishers, general managers, editors, reporters, photographers, copy editors and other staffers from Wisconsin newspapers.

The following awards were given:
• Second Award for General Web Excellence – Arches newspaper staff
• Second Award for Sports Reporting – “Jordan Osley leads on and off the court” by Rodolfo Piana
• Third Award for Graphics – “Spring Scopes” by Nastassia Putz
• Third Award for General Reporting – “Professionals debate benefits of wearing rocker-bottom shoes” by Danielle Goetz

Arches focuses on news and events of interest to the College community and includes national, metropolitan, local and college news and features.
