1st Annual First Responders Fest a Success

More than 1,500 Tosans turn out for first test of what is hoped to be an annual celebration of those who protect and serve the community.

With near 100-degree afternoon weather threatening to wither even the brave, a friendly breeze blew up and a hearty crowd turned out Wednesday evening for Wauwatosa's first First Responder Fest.

The crowd count?

Trust the top dogs: Chief police and fire officials said organizers of the event hoped to bring 1,500 people to Hart Park for music, food, drink and fun, and they said that prediction was topped.

While cover bands played rock classics, firefighters and police officers in attendance enjoyed free food and drink and pats on the back for round-the-clock diligence and devotion to duty.

Mayor Kathy Ehley, Fire Chief Rob Ugaste and Police Chief Barry Weber thanked the community and the crowd for throwing the fete – the brainchild of the Village of Wauwatosa Business Improvement District – and said they hoped the fest would become another keystone Tosa event for many years to come.
