A 48-year-old Wauwatosa man is accused of stealing booze from an area liquor store, then going back to the same store the next day while the same employee was working.

David Brian Cullinan was charged Thursday in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with one count of retail theft and one count of bail jumping. If convicted, he faces up to 18 months in prison and $20,000 in fines.

At 1:44 p.m. last Sunday, Cullinan walked into 11104 W. Bluemound Road, grabbed a bottle of Seagram’s whiskey off a shelf and stick it down the front of his pants, then piced up some beer, which he paid for. An employee on duty saw the theft but was unable to detain Cullinan at the time.

However, Cullinan came back again the next day and the same employee was working. When he saw Cullinan, he called the Wauwatosa Police Department and told officers he wanted Cullinan arrested for shoplifting.

Cullinan was questioned by officers, and he admitted to the theft the previous day. He’s currently being held in Milwaukee County Jail on $250 bond while awaiting trial.

Cullinan is well-known to Wauwatosa police, who have arrested him for stealing whiskey over and over, most recently on Nov. 14, when he was charged as a habitual criminal. He was out on bail under terms requiring no criminal activity.

Cullinan also was convicted of felony possession of heroin in 2009 and again in 2010, according to criminal court records.
