Classes in Session at West as Police Investigate Bomb Threat

Written threat found in bathroom Tuesday warning of bomb on Wednesday prompts canceling of evening classes, but morning sessions were being held under police watch.

A written bomb threat found in a Wauwatosa West High School bathroom late Tuesday prompted police surveillance and an investigation, but classes were being held Wednesday morning as scheduled.

The threat apparently said a bomb would be in the school on Wednesday.

Milwaukee County sheriff's deputies conducted a sweep of the school with bomb-sniffing dogs and found nothing.

According to Police Lt. Chris Fox, the School District sent an email notice to all West parents and guardians Tuesday night alerting them to the threat. Parents were told it was their decision whether to send their children to school, Fox said.

Parents were also advised to talk to their kids about the long-term ramifications faced be those who make such threats, Fox said.

Evening classes at the school were canceled, and police took up "a heightened presence," Fox said. He said an investigation of the threat was ongoing, and further reports would have to await its outcome.
