Drunk Mom Causes Injury Accident with Her Young Kids in the Car

Woman made a U-turn in the middle of Wauwatosa Avenue immediately into the path of an oncoming car.

A 25-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested at 8:41 p.m. Monday for causing an injury accident while intoxicated, with children younger than 16 in her vehicle, constituting a felony.

Witnesses said the woman had been stopped in the southbound lane of the 2600 block of Wauwatosa Avenue and had made an abrupt U-turn into the path of an oncoming car. She appeared to have stopped to pick up a man who was waiting for her on the opposite side of the street.

Witnesses said that immediately after the crash, the woman got out of the car, spoke to the man she had stopped for and then got back in on the passenger’s side.

Both cars hit a concrete light pole, and the car that struck her careened off the street and hit a building. The second driver briefly blacked out after her airbag deployed and complained at the scene of injuries to her face. She was taken to a hospital, where she also reported head, neck and back pain.

While interviewing the driver at fault, officers noticed the odor of alcohol and that her speech was slurred. She failed a field sobriety test and blew a .12 blood alcohol content on a breath test.Β
