Firefighters Battle Hot Garage Blaze in the Wee Hours

Heavy flames greet fire crews, damage nearby structures as well.

An early morning fire Wednesday destroyed the garage where it started and damaged two others nearby, a official said.

Firefighters were called at 3:32 a.m. to fight a structure fire in the 8000 block of West Chestnut Street, said Deputy Fire Chief Jim Case. The first units to arrive found a detached garage burning with a large volume of smoke and fire.

Two other nearby garages and an automobile were also damaged by the fire. Fire units were on the scene for about two hours extinguishing the fire and performing an investigation.

WE Energies was asked to assist with a number of downed power lines and a threatened transformer. Some homes in the area were still without power when firefighters had cleared the scene.

No injuries were reported during the incident. The cause ofthe fire is undetermined at this time, as is the dollar value of the property loss.
