Longfellow Students Suspected in Tip Jar Theft

Boys who grabbed jar full of cash and ran identified by fellow student.

Police last week were two boys identified by a witness as students in the theft of a tip jar from a Wauwtosa car wash.

According to police reports:

At 4:21 p.m. Jan. 27, a manager at car wash, 7240 W. North Ave., called police to report that a pair of juveniles had stolen a large jar containing about $100 in tips off the business counter.

He said they had been loitering nearby for about an hour, then walked in, grabbed the jar and ran.

While officers were en route to Wash Brite, a nearby resident called to report two boys running east through yards in the 2100 block of North 69th Street.

The manager said another unknown boy told employees he recognized the two boys as fellow students at Longfellow Middle School and gave them two names. He left before police arrived to interview him.

Police were able to connect one of the names to a 14-year-old Wauwatosa boy and intended to follow up at the school.
