Man Caught Driving Nearly Four Times Over The Limit With Teen in The Car

A West Allis man is facing charges for driving with a blood-alcohol level nearly four times the legal limit while transporting a teenage passenger.

Robert Edward Coleman Jr., 46, was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Wednesday with one count of second offense operating while intoxicated with a minor, one count of operating a motor vehicle with a prohibited alcohol concentration with a minor and one count of operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license. If convicted, he faces up to two years in prison and $4,700 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

At 1:46 a.m. Jan. 5, a Wauwatosa police officer saw Coleman make a right turn from southbound Wauwatosa Avenue onto westbound Harmonee Avenue without stopping for a flashing red light. The officer then began to follow Coleman who was speeding in a 25 mph zone on the road.

He was then pulled over in the 1200 block of Glenview Avenue and told the officer he had four beers earlier in the night. The officer then spotted a 15-year-old sitting in the rear of the car.

Coleman failed field sobriety tests and had a blood alcohol level of 0.296, almost four times the legal limit to drive in Wisconsin.

He was previously convicted of OWI in June 2011. He will make his initial appearance in court Friday.
