A 23-year-old Milwaukee man is being sought on charges that he broke into a Wauwatosa home in August and left behind a litter of looted stockings, at least one of which led police to him.

On Aug. 1 a man living in the 2100 block of North 83rd Street called police to report that someone had broken into his home and ransacked it.
The victim told police he came home for lunch that day, then went back to work and found the house rifled when he returned home later.

He also found that socks belonging to his wife were strewn across their back yard, apparently dropped by the burglar in a hasty retreat. Police were able to retrieve a DNA sample from a one of the wife's socks, which was traced back to Smith.
The only thing of value taken from the home was a laptop computer.
A warrant has been issued for Smith’s arrest.
