Man Tries to Bring .45 and 3 Magazines Into Crisis Center, Police Say

A 29-year-old Milwaukee man had a loaded .45-cal. semi-automatic pistol and three full magazines in his backpack while checking in to County Psychiatric Crisis Center, complaint says.

A 29-year-old Milwaukee man is accused of trying to bring a fully loaded handgun and three loaded magazines with him while checking in to the Milwaukee County Psychiatric Crisis Service Center in Wauwatosa.

Robin Douglas Gazdecki was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with one count of carrying a concealed weapon. If convicted, he faces up to nine months in prison and $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint:

On Dec. 23, Gazdecki was checking into the center and clutching a backpack, which he said he didn’t want staff to search. Gazdecki said he had something very important in the backpack and continued to refuse to let staff search the bag, but eventually admitted he had a gun inside.

Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputies were called to the facility, and they found a loaded .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol with three extra loaded magazines inside the backpack.

Gazdecki said he didn’t have a concealed carry permit for the gun but he needed it for protection.

Gazdecki is currently free on $500 bail while awaiting trial.

Okay, why is he Free on bail? He's a danger to the public and likely to himself. Was his place of residence checked for additional weapons before he was released, if not, why not? He's checking into a mental health clinic, I believe that could be good reason to deny him the right to possess a weapon and bringing the weapon to the facility was as well.

Some key facts are missing from this complaint, one being that the backpack he calmly placed down was LOCKED with a padlock and was not easy to open nor within his reach. He was NOT carrying a concealed weapon. He only asked was it nessesary to go thru the search so that he could speak with a psychiatrist for some documents. Finally there was no signage at the entrance stating weapons were forbidden and he was only attempting to follow the laws since he had no car to lock the bag in, otherwise he wouldn't have taken it with him.
