On Dec. 23, Gazdecki was checking into the center and clutching a backpack, which he said he didn’t want staff to search. Gazdecki said he had something very important in the backpack and continued to refuse to let staff search the bag, but eventually admitted he had a gun inside.

Milwaukee County sheriff’s deputies were called to the facility, and they found a loaded .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol with three extra loaded magazines inside the backpack.

Gazdecki said he didn’t have a concealed carry permit for the gun but he needed it for protection.

Gazdecki is currently free on $500 bail while awaiting trial.
