No Whiz, Kid: Relief Comes at a Cost for Young Tosa Man

If you have a sheaf of arrest warrants in your name, it is perhaps best not to go around irrigating public trees at the top o' the morning.

A teenager with a lengthy list of minor but active infractions he had been ignoring decided to respond to a call of nature on a busy street. The rest is predictable.

At 8:40 a.m. Saturday, the 18-year-old Wauwatosa man was arrested for disorderly conduct and on outstanding warrants after a caller reported him urinating on a tree along the sidewalk in the 2500 block of North 72nd Street.

An officer spotted the suspect in the 7500 block of West Clarke Street and stopped him for questioning. The young man denied the allegation of urinating publicly, but the caller, who had followed, described how he had been backing out of his driveway with his young son in the car and had clearly seen the suspect "whip it out."

The police officer noted that while he was on the call, the neighborhood was alive with people of all ages, including schoolchildren, out starting their days. He also noted that the suspect was only about three blocks from home when he decided he couldn't hold it.

Finding the suspect had six active warrants, the officer arrested him for disorderly conduct, and he was sent to jail on the warrants, totaling $1,314 in due fines or 16 days locked up, charging:

  • Use of tobacco by a minor (two counts)
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Possession and use of alcohol by a minor
  • Truancy, and
  • Loitering on school property

Saturday

A Brookfield woman reported that some time within the previous week someone had stolen construction scaffolding from outside a Wauwatosa home she owns in the 2400 block of Wauwatosa Avenue.

Friday

At 6:21 p.m., a 28-year-old South Milwaukee man was arrested for theft and possession of a controlled substance at the Pick ‘n Save at 6950 W. State St. after he tried to leave the store with a basket containing three Crest Whitestripes packages, seven packs of razor blades and a pint of strawberries, all together worth $323.09 retail. Police searched him and found two Clonazepam pills and a heroin cooking kit. The suspect admitted he is a heroin user and was stealing the merchandise to sell to support his addiction.

A resident of the 1200 block of North 121st Street reported that overnight someone entered his unlocked SUV in his driveway and stole $2 in change.

Last Thursday

A Milwaukee man reported that between 1:15 and 3:45 p.m. someone stole the roof rack off his car while it was in the parking garage at 1414 Underwood Ave. Attached to the rack were two bicycle carriers and a luggage basket.

A resident of the 7800 block of Warren Avenue reported that between 6 and 7 a.m. Feb. 25, someone entered his unlocked car in his driveway and stole an iPod worth $250.

A resident of the 2300 block of North 71st Street reported that overnight someone had entered his unlocked garage and stolen a bicycle and also damaged his car by breaking off the center console cover.

At 11:45 a.m., a 21-year-old Wauwatosa woman was arrested for violating a restraining order, following her arrest on suspicion of battery the day before. Her boyfriend, a 45-year-old Wauwatosa man, reported that she had called him 10 times while she was on a 72-hour no-contact order after she beat him up and trashed his home on Wednesday.

At 10 a.m., two 13-yer-old Milwaukee boys were arrested for fighting in a hallway at Whitman Middle School after one said the other “got in my face” during a kickball game during gym class the previous period. They took their issue into the hall and were soon punching and wrestling in front of a large crowd, slamming into lockers on both side of the hallway.
