On Same Night, 2 '90s Hondas Stolen 2 Blocks Apart

Cars of same make, model and vintage taken overnight from residents along 68th Street in the Jacobus Park neighborhood.

On the same night, at residences within two blocks of one another, two mid-1990s Honda Accord sedans were stolen – and so, not surprisingly, police consider them related crimes.

At 6:53 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to an apartment building in the 1000 block of 68th Street who said his gold 1995 Accord was missing from the building's lot, and he knew it had been there as late as 2:30 a.m.

He assured officers he had locked the car, and all keys were accounted for. No broken glass was found, but car thieves have other means, such as "slim Jims," to enter cars without breaking.

An hour later, Wauwatosa officers were back in the neighborhood to look into another stolen car report just two blocks to the south, this one from a resident of the 6800 block of Cedar Street.

There, a beige 1997 Accord had disappeared overnight from the owner's driveway. This time, the owner thought her Honda probably was not locked, but again the keys were not in the car.

As of the latest police report, neither car had been recovered.

Police say mid- to late-'90s vehicles are often targeted because they are easier to steal quickly than later models, and some, including Honda Accords of that vintage, even have some cachet for crooks because they are popular on the street with a little hot-rodding.
