Parents, Do You Know Where Your Kids Aren't?

School, that's where. And in one mother's case, she's certainly aware her son doesn't go to school even close to half the time.

Police issued five citations on March 25 for habitual truancy to students and one parent at Wauwatosa West High School. Those at West cited for missed and unexcused absence for all or parts of school days since the current semester began Jan. 25:

  • The 36-year-old mother of a 16-year-old Wauwatosa boy was cited for contributing to the truancy of her son, who had also missed 30 days, and this was her fourth such citation;
  • A 16-year-old Milwaukee boy had missed 30 days of school since the beginning of this semester;
  • A 17-year-old Wauwatosa boy missed 30 days and received his third citation;
  • A 17-year-old Wauwatosa boy missed 15 days and received a third citation; and
  • A 14-year-old Wauwatosa girl, cited for missing 10 days this semester.

A resident of the 2300 block of North 65th Street reported that some time overnight someone had smashed the driver’s window of her car while it was parked in her driveway. A large chunk of Lannon stone was found on the passenger seat; nothing appeared to be missing from the car and there was no firm evidence that it was entered. Wauwatosa police believed this and the following two incidents the same night were related:

  • Another resident of the same 2500 block of North 65th Street reported that overnight someone entered his unlocked car in his driveway and stole a GPS unit.
  • A resident of the nearby 2400 block of North 67th Street reported that overnight someone entered his unlocked car in his driveway and stole an expandable police baton and a bottle of cologne, together worth about $120.

This time he was cited and told he was now banned from Target property and would be arrested for trespassing if he did it again.

At 9:24 a.m., a manager at the Pick ‘n Save at 6950 W. State St. reported that a man had just stolen three bottles of liquor and refused to stop for him. He said the man was just leaving in a black Nissan. An officer in the vicinity spotted the car and tried to pull it over, but the driver fled east on State Street, passing other cars on the right and left, and after a short chase the pursuit was abandoned for public safety reasons. The owner of the car was located and proved to be a female passenger who identified the suspect. Police were still looking for the man, a 29-year-old West Allis resident.

At 9:03 a.m., a patrol officer came upon a disabled Jeep Cherokee in the 3000 block of North Mayfair Road, and as he pulled up behind it saw two men jogging away across the street just before disappearing behind Alioto’s Restaurant, 3041 N.
