Girl May Have Stepped in Front of School Bus, Police Say

Accident victim taken to Children's Hospital with injuries, but her condition is unknown.

A 16-year-old girl who was struck by a school bus early Thursday morning in front of Divine Savior Holy Angels High School may have purposely stepped out in the path of the oncoming vehicle, according to Anne E. Schwartz, spokeswoman for the Milwaukee Police Department.

The girl has broken bones and a  head injury but was conscious when paramedics arrived. The was first on the scene of the accident, which occurred at about 7:50 a.m. Her injuries do not appear life threatening, Schwartz said.

A 16-year-old girl was struck by a school bus early this morning at North 100th and West Marion streets, according to a  spokesman.

A Tosa Fire Department spokesman confirmed that it had taken the girl to Children's Hospital. The accident occurred in Milwaukee and is being investigated by the city police.

It is not known whether the girl was a student at DSHA, 4257 N. 100th St., Milwaukee. The school did not immediately return calls.

WTMJ reported that according to witnesses the girl darted into the street from the DSHA campus and was struck by a bus bound for the Milwaukee High School of the Arts.
