Police Report: 2 Homes Burglarized; Vehicle Break-in

A roundup of the latest from the Shorewood police log.

Police cited a 38-year-old Milwaukee man on Monday for theft after they say he walked into a Shorewood home under construction and took a blue tarp.

The home in the 3600 block of North Murray Avenue recently had damage from a fire and repairs were being made. Police say the man walked in and grabbed the tarp, but as he tried to leave the scene in his car, a police officer driving past stopped him for expired license plates.

That’s when a contractor came out of the home to tell the officer the man had taken the tarp.

Police also cited the man for the expired plates and other traffic violations.

Also in the police report:

  • Three storage lockers in the basement of a Shorewood apartment building were pried open and two suitcases, an air conditioning unit, blanket and pillow, all valued at $1,280, were taken. The apartment in the 1800 block of East Kenmore Place was entered sometime between 5 p.m. on Monday and 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
  • An unlocked car parked in the 3500 block of North Oakland Avenue was illegally entered on Tuesday and a gym bag with clothing was taken, though the bag was recovered down the street.
  • A Shorewood woman told police Thursday she witnessed a man jump out of a white van in the 4300 block of North Wildwood Avenue on Thursday, open her outgoing mail and then place it back in her mailbox. Police are investigating.
  • A $150 black and orange BMX style Haro-brand bicycle was reported stolen from an alleyway in the 3800 block of North Oakland Avenue on Tuesday. The theft occurred sometime between 3:25 and 5:25 p.m.

"... and pillow valued at $1,280..." That is one expensive pillow...

CowDung, you're killing me. The sentence has been rewritten to be more clear.

So every one of those items was valued at $1,280, and not just the pillow? ;-) Sorry Adam, I'm just having some fun. It was probably fine as originally written...
