Police Report: A Sleepy Week for Kids, But Not Cops

A couple of boys from East High stand out – or lie down – for not knowing what to do with themselves.

Police incident reports made available since Monday include a couple of kickers from East High School: the bored hall-pass bathroom arsonist and the guy who needs to get to bed earlier – he has 59 truant and tardiness reports because he skips class to sleep just about anywhere.

Thursday

At 1:40 a.m., a 33-year-old Wauwatosa man was arrested on outstanding warrants outside his home in the 6400 block of West North Avenue after police were called about a domestic dispute. The man was intoxicated and was in a loud argument with his wife, but there was no violence. A check found two Milwaukee County warrants for failure to pay child support. The man was released on $2,420 bond.

Wednesday

At 7:58 p.m., a 16-year-old Wauwatosa boy reported that about an hour earlier he had been set upon by four other boys on the playground of Washington Elementary School, 2166 N. 68th St., and that they had beaten him up and stolen his iPod Touch. He told officers that after beating him to the ground, one of the boys said, “One of y’all better search his pockets and take his stuff,” and then, to the victim, “If you get up I’ll beat the (expletive) out of you.” He was searched and his iPod was stolen. Police were able to identify three of the suspects from an earlier report of suspicious activity; they are two 16-year-old Milwaukee boys and one 14-year-old Wauwatosa boy. The fourth suspect is unknown, and all were being sought by police.

At 9:45 p.m., a Milwaukee man reported that his wallet had been stolen from his car on April 5 while he was in Cardinal Fitness, 2885 N. Mayfair Rd., and that the same day someone had used his credit card to make $568.50 in cash withdrawals from ATMs. He told police that his car had been unlocked and that he had used the year of his birth as his PIN, and suspected the thief had figured that out.

At 12:30 p.m., a woman who lives in the 7900 block of Jackson Park Boulevard reported that she had seen a strange man trying to enter her neighbor’s garage. He did not break in but tried the doorknob. The woman spoke to him and he left quickly without responding. The owner of the home said that when she had left earlier on some errands she had seen a man of the description walking in the direction of the library and thought that was where he was headed, but now believes that he noticed her leaving, and she thought he was trying to enter her garage while no one was home.

At 3:41 p.m., a 34-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested on a Wauwatosa warrant for operating while suspended after an officer stopped to investigate a vehicle parked with its hazard lights on. The driver was found nearby carrying a gas can; he had run out of gas on the way to pick up his children from school.

At 2:35 p.m., a Mequon woman reported that her wallet had been stolen from an office in the new Aurora Health Care facility at 2999 N. Mayfair Rd. The building is still under construction and the office was unlocked and unattended at the time. The woman reported that someone had tried three times to use her credit card at area Walgreen’s stores without success.

At 2:45 p.m., a 16-year-old Wauwatosa boy was arrested for negligent handling of burning materials at Wauwatosa East High School. The assistant principal had discovered that a small fire had been started in a stall in a boys’ bathroom. A partly burned pink school pass was found in the toilet with the boy’s name on it. He was questioned about the fire and said he had started it because he was bored.

At 8 a.m., a 17-year-old Wauwatosa boy was arrested for habitual truancy when he was found sleeping on a bench in East High School when he should have been in class. A week earlier, he had been found sleeping in a chair at Starbucks, 1417 Wauwatosa Ave., when he should have been in class. He was cited then as well. The boy has 59 unverified absences or tardies this semester.

At 1:02 a.m., a 29-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested on a Milwaukee Police Department felony warrant for aggravated assault when he was stopped and questioned for suspicious behavior in the parking lot of Jo Jo’s, 418 N. Mayfair Road.

Tuesday

At 10:32 p.m., a 19-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested on an outstanding warrant for operating after suspension after a patrol officer ran a routine check of her license plate and learned it was suspended. The woman had no driver’s license, no proof of insurance and was not wearing her safety belt when she was stopped.

At 2:54 p.m., a 15-year-old Milwaukee girl was arrested for theft at Macy’s at Mayfair Mall after she was seen on store surveillance stuffing a pair of headphones, three T-shirts and a pair of earrings into her purse and trying to leave the store without paying.

At 10:30 a.m., a resident of the 2400 block of North 63rd Street reported that someone had entered her home sometime the night before and stolen a television and a laptop computer. She said the doors and windows were locked, but there was no sign of forced entry. She said she suspected a handyman who had access to her keys, but police were unable to locate him at the time. All the woman’s keys were accounted for.

At 8:30 a.m., employees of the Walgreen’s store at 10800 W. Capitol Drive reported that a man had stolen $386.93 worth of colognes. He was not suspected while he was in the store but was later noticed on surveillance footage concealing the items in his coat.

At 9:21 a.m., an employee of the BP gas station at 7532 W. Center St. reported that had left without paying for $87.38 worth of gas. The employee got a license plate number, which turned out to have been stolen and had been cancelled by the owner.

At 9:16 a.m., a resident of the 2400 block of North 64th Street reported that someone had thrown a rock through his window at about 11 p.m. the night before. The man said he and his wife had just returned home from a Milwaukee Brewers game when they heard a crash and found the front window shattered. He said no one tried to get into the house and he saw no one.

 At 8:17 p.m., a Richfield man reported that sometime between 7 and 8 a.m., someone had broken in to his work van and stolen $1,550 worth of tools while it was parked in the Wauwatosa Municipal Lot at 1330 Wauwatosa Ave. The door locked had been punched out.

At 12:25 a.m., a 36-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested on three outstanding warrants at the Super 8 Motel, 115 N. Mayfair Rd., after officers on a walk-through smelled marijuana and traced it to his room. The man allowed officers to search his room and nothing was found, although he admitted having smoked marijuana earlier. Officers learned that there was a Wauwatosa warrant for the man for operating after revocation and two through Greenfield for operating while suspended and receiving stolen property.

Monday

At 10:40 p.m., a Cottonwood, Utah, woman reported that at sometime since 7 p.m., someone had smashed a window of her car and stolen a GPS unit while it was parked at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 10499 Innovation Dr.

At 8:38 p.m., a 32-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested on a Greenfield warrant after he was stopped for going through a red light at North 68th Street and West North Avenue. The police report did not say what the man was wanted for.

At 3:43 p.m., an 18-year-old Milwaukee woman and a 20-year-old Waukesha man were arrested for underage drinking in the parking lot at Dave and Buster’s, 2201 N. Mayfair Rd., after officers were called to investigate a suspicious vehicle. The two were drinking vodka in the car before going into the arcade. Neither was yet legally intoxicated, so they were not cited for drunken driving, but police did not allow them to drive home.

At 8 a.m., employees of Kelly Services, 3333 N. Mayfair Rd., reported that at some time since 6:30 p.m. Friday, someone had broken into the offices and stolen a number of computers. Police believed that entry had been by force but the method and point of entry could not be determined. Throughout the course of the day, employees had noticed things amiss – drawers forced open, doors with marks on them as though someone had tried to enter. Small things, including $2 cash, a small gift box of gum and a bookbinding machine were missing. They eventually realized a burglary had occurred and found the computers missing, too. All keys were accounted for.

At 7 p.m., a Milwaukee woman reported that sometime since 5 p.m. someone had stolen a license plate off her car while it was parked at Mayfair Mall.

At noon, a Menomonee Falls man reported that sometime since 7 a.m. someone had stolen a license plate from his car while it was parked at Home Depot, 4100 N. 124th St.

At 10:23 a.m., a resident of the 2600 block of North 70th Street reported that she had just seen two teenagers steal a bicycle from her front yard.

At 10:08 a.m., a 15-year-old Wauwatosa boy was arrested for disorderly conduct at East High School. The boy had become disruptive during a third-period class and could not be calmed down. He began to bang his head against walls and windows and inadvertently banged the back of his head into an associate principal’s nose as he was rearing back to bash himself again. The associate principal put the boy in a “double-chicken-wing arm hold” and eventually he calmed down. He told police he was having trouble at home and just couldn’t make it through class. He said he had been banging his head because he wanted to kill himself but didn’t feel that way anymore.
