Police Report: Another Burglary, Spates of OWIs and Vehicle Entries

Thursday

A 17-year-old Milwaukee boy was arrested for possession of marijuana at , 10122 W. North Ave., where he was working as a caddy. Police said that they received reliable information that a marijuana sale was going to take place at the club’s caddy shack. The shack was put under surveillance, and when the boy arrived, he was called in to an office, where he was found to have 2.6 grams of marijuana and $270 in cash.

At 2:35 a.m., a 27-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for drunken driving, second offense, after a traffic stop in the 11100 block of West North Avenue. An officer saw the man driving erratically, nearly hitting a median, and pulled him over. He immediately noticed the driver’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy and smelled of alcohol. The driver performed poorly on a field sobriety test and blew a .18 blood alcohol content on a breath tester. The man was driving without a license because of revocation from his earlier, recent OWI conviction.

Wednesday

At 8:54 p.m., a 23-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for theft and felony bail jumping when he was caught trying to steal liquor from , 6950 W. State St. Two other suspects escaped before police arrived. Officers were called to the store on a report that a suspected thief was fighting with loss prevention staff. The three men had been seen on camera concealing bottles of liquor, and when one was stopped trying to leave the store, he punched an employee, wrestled away and ran. When the 23-year-old was approached in the store, he also tried to flee but was tackled. He continued to try to wrestle away until police arrived and handcuffed him. The third suspect was apparently able to leave the store unobserved during the fighting.

A resident of the 6600 block of Cedar Street reported that between 11:45 a.m. and 1:49 p.m. his home had been burglarized. He had locked the doors but left several windows open when he left, and when he returned a couple hours later he found the back door ajar and a number of things missing. Police found that a screen had been cut on one of the windows. Taken were two laptop computers, a silver-plated dining set, two rings and some loose change, totaling $4,433.38 in value. This break-in occurred at about the same time on the same day a man was in the 300 block of North 68th Street. Entry in that case was also through a window.

At 2:25 a.m., two Wauwatosa boys, both 17, and an 18-year-old Milwaukee man were arrested after a traffic stop for reckless driving in the 10600 block of Blue Mound Road. The 18-year-old driver smelled strongly of alcohol. The boy also admitted to having smoked marijuana, and a bong was found in the car. He was arrested for drunken driving and his passengers were arrested for underage drinking.

Tuesday

At 2:15 p.m., a 59-year-old Kenosha man was arrested for drunken driving after he crashed into a parked car in the 6400 block of West Lloyd Street and was injured. While trying to interview the man inside the Fire Rescue Unit at the scene, a police officer noticed the smell of alcohol and that the man could not stay awake. There were no skid marks at the scene, indicating the man had not even braked before smashing into the other car. A records check found that the man had also been arrested for drunken driving on June 18 by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department.

Monday

There were five reported incidents of entry into unlocked cars in the area of Hillcrest Drive between 66th and 70th streets. Loose change was taken in each case, and in two cases car stereos were stolen. One of those incidents is also being treated as a burglary because the thief entered an unlocked garage to get at the two cars inside.

There were two reports of stolen bicycles, one from a residence and one from the rack at the . In the first case, the bike had been locked to a pole but the cable was easily slipped over it; the bike stolen at the library had not been locked.

A 41-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for theft after he tried to leave , 6700 W. State St., without paying for 5 bottles of Absolut vodka. He did manage to leave the store but was stopped and arrested on a county bus.
