Police Report: Brassiere Bandit on the Loose

Wauwatosa police are so far stopping short of pointedly asking citizens to report any case of an abrupt amplitude in area decolletage.

However, officers may be keeping an eye out for suspects with an enhanced 36-inch bustline after 54 extreme pushup brassieres in that measurement, but in a range of cup sizes, were stolen Friday from  at .

At 9 a.m., police arrived after a manager called to report the theft. The manager said that four drawers in a display at the back of the store had been sufficiently stocked with 16 bras each as of 3 p.m. Thursday.

But at 6:30 a.m. Friday, when the store was being restocked for the day's business, three of the four drawers were found to be empty, and there were only 10 bras remaining in the fourth.

Police are seeking 30 size 36B, 14 size 36C and 10 size 36DD brassieres, worth a total of $2,628, all in the Victoria’s Secret “Very Sexy Pushups” style.

The manager said traffic in the store had been light during the late afternoon and evening before, and staff would have been likely to have noticed any activity leading to a theft of this size. However, neither the store nor police went so far as to suggest that it was an inside job.

It is worth noting that any theft of over $2,500 rises from the level of a misdemeanor to a felony.

Sunday

At 6:49 p.m., a 33-year-old Wauwatosa woman was arrested at her residence in the 6800 block of St. James Street for possession of a switchblade knife when police went there to seek her on a fugitive warrant for failure to appear on charges of battery, disorderly conduct and use of a dangerous weapon. The warrant was for an incident on Aug. 10 when she had been arrested on a weapons charge for unprovoked attacks with her fists on two women and then displaying a knife.

At 7:30 a.m., a resident of the 2100 block of North 69th Street reported that sometime since midnight someone had stolen half a cord of firewood, about 800 pieces costing $207, from his front yard. The owner said he had just had the wood delivered on Friday and he was shocked at the theft because, he estimated, it might have taken three people an hour or more to take all the wood.

At 1:34 a.m., a 34-year-old West Allis man was arrested for drunken driving, first offense, after he was stopped for speeding at 45 mph in a posted 30 mph zone in the 8100 block of Blue Mound Road. The man performed poorly on a sobriety test and registered a blood alcohol content of .18 on a breath test. The arresting officer was posted on Blue Mound as part of a scheduled Southeast Wisconsin OWI Task Force watch.

Saturday

At 8:50 p.m., an 18-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for disorderly conduct after he was reportedly seen urinating at the bus stop in the 2200 block of North 60th Street.

At 10:18 a.m., a Wauwatosa woman called police to report that her car had been broken into and her purse stolen. She said that she, her husband and son had parked in the 2000 block of North 122nd Street at 9 a.m. for a youth soccer game at Brietlow Field southwest of the Wauwatosa School Administration building, 12121 W. North Ave. When they returned to the car, they found the passenger window smashed and her property missing.

At 12:35 a.m., a 31-year-old Wauwatosa woman was arrested for drunken driving, first offense, after a following driver reported her weaving in traffic on northbound Hwy. 45. The caller followed her all the way to her home in the 4500 block of North 106th Street, where an officer soon arrived to find her slumped over the wheel in her driveway. She performed poorly on a field test and blew a .16 BAC.

Friday

At 8:51 p.m., a 17-year-old Wauwatosa boy was arrested for underage possession of alcohol after a caller reported that he and two other youths were acting suspiciously near , 6002 W. North Ave. When police arrived the youths were in the alley behind restaurant, and one of them was seen throwing something over the fence unto the restaurant’s patio. It proved to be a bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey in a brown paper bag.

At 6:45 p.m., an 18-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for theft after she tried to leave at Mayfair Mall with merchandise concealed in a foil-lined bag inside her purse. Shoplifters frequently use such bags in attempts to defeat security monitors at store exits. That part of the plan worked for this woman – alarms did not sound – but she had already been seen on camera hiding the merchandise.

At 6:27 p.m., an 18-year-old Waukesha woman who had been reported missing was found by Wauwatosa police and Milwaukee County deputies at , 11811 W. Blue Mound Rd., in a room with a 32-year-old Menomonee Falls woman and two Milwaukee men, 33 and 36. Although no contraband was found in the room, the young woman was clearly under the influence of drugs.

Thursday

At 6:37 p.m., a 39-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for disorderly conduct at , 10950 W. Potter Rd., after school security called on numerous reports of the man yelling, swearing and slamming his car doors in the parking lot. Officers reported that the man was highly intoxicated and completely uncooperative, but they did manage to determine that he had been waiting for his girlfriend who, it turned out, had already called a friend for a ride home because he was so drunk.
